Reno or Tahoe?

Which would be best to stay if you had 2 extra nites from San Franciso with your sons 22yrs & 25? I remember Tahoe being so much nicer than Reno.
Thanks in advance for any info

Tahoe. Tahoe has everything to offer as Reno, however, you certainly cannot say the same thing about Reno.

I second the vote for Lake Tahoe. We visited Reno 5 years ago & found the surrounding area much more appealing than Reno itself.

To stay away from the crowds, I'd skip the south shore and go to the Cal-Neva Resort at Crystal Bay on the north shore. It has a better combo of gaming & nature.

Since you guys are not in your "reclining" years, you might prefer Reno. It's a honky tonk place. I certainly would have preferred it when I was your kids age.

Actually - most of the young people I know MUCH prefer Tahoe. They mostly think of Reno as being for the blue haired bus tour set. The main reason they like Tahoe is that you find the same "honky tonk" things as in Reno (except for the strip clubs) but also have the advantage of amazing outdoor activities. And then there is the Scenery - Summer in Reno is dry, hot and desert-like.

having lived in the Los Angeles area
for over 25 years, and in the Carmel,
Northern Calif. area for 5 years, my
vote would be for Lake Tahoe hands
down over Reno. Once you ski powder
in Tahoe, it is only to be compared
to skiing in Colorado, or Utah. Even
in the summer Tahoe is beautiful!
Reno, on the other-hand, is tardy
-at best-so you can gamble there,
what a yawn-it's nothing like Las
Vegas is now, anyway...

There is so much more to do in Tahoe and then as a last resort you can still gamble. If you stay at the Hyatt in Incline it feels less like a casino than anywhere else. Also consider Sunnyside Resort south of Tahoe city. This is a great place right on the lake.
