Reno,NV vs. Colorado skiing

We have skiied in many colorado resorts-breckenridge, vail, keystone and were wondering how the resorts around lake tahoe compare. we are going over x-mas time with our 3 young adults. Any sugggestions where to stay to ski and have a night life in Reno? Is there a town like in breckenridge or vail to go at night or hang out during the day? or should we stick to colorado skiing.
thanks for the help. tj

Hi..
Nothing like skiing in Colorado but South Lake Tahoe is wonderful and Harrah's South Lake Tahoe or Harvey's(Harrah's sister hotel) across the street is perfect to stay in town and enjoy the night life in So. Tahoe..Reno is about an hour plus away and in the winter can be dicey to go up and down the mountain everyday.. a condo might work for you all at the base but they go fast.
Heavenly Ski Resort is awesome and around Xmas should be a blast..

South Lake Tahoe has really built a great little village there and you have access to Heavenly right in town. Nearby is Sierra at Tahoe and a little further away is Kirkwood.

But on the north shore you have easy access to the following resorts:

Northstar: www.northstarattahoe.com
Squaw Valley: http://www.squaw.com/
Alpine Meadows: http://www.skialpine.com/./winter/index.html
Sugar Bowl: http://www.sugarbowl.com/tahoe/SITE/...822/direct?c=1
Homewood: http://www.skihomewood.com/tahoe/SIT...994/direct?c=1
Mt Rose: http://www.mtrose.com/
Diamond Peak: http://www.diamondpeak.com

You can reach these places from Truckee, Tahoe City Squaw Valley but none of those will give you the village feeling.

Actually the closest to a village feeling CA has is Mammoth Mountain

Hi Tennis,

Are you saying you are thinking of staying in Reno and skiing at Tahoe? That would be an ugly commute!

Hi,

Lake Tahoe skiing is fantastic and south lake tahoe has nightlife similar to Reno (casinos), if that is what you meant.

If you are looking for a place to stay -
this site lists over 800 vacation homes in the lake tahoe area.

http://www.homeaway.com/California-v...on-rentals.htm

Once you decide which mountains you would like to ski, you can search for exactly what you are looking for including your travel dates - the search box is under the logo.

Last Christams break it rained, not snowed, and the skiing/snowboarding was not that great.

As much as I like Tahoe, and am close by, you may not be happy with the snow at that time of year as compared with Colorado.
