Renaissance Hotel (Marriott)
Staying at the Renaissance close to the Convention Center. Any comments on the hotel and safety issues? It is 999 9th St. NW. We like to walk 3-4 miles in the morning -- better to go to the mall? Safety walking to Metro? Thanks

Ritchie - Would advise you not to walk furtherNW (stay below H Street), and instead head down toward the Mall and Pa. Avenue for your walks. Head uptown, toward the higher street numbers, not toward the lower ones. Look at a map, and this will make sense to you. During the day, no problem. But at night there are many empty streets in that area ... I'd stay where people walk.

Hi Ritchie, I used to work at this particular hotel when it first opened. It was called the Ramada Renaissance. Of couse then the rooms were all very nice, so were many of the employees. Sorry I can't tell you what's going on with that hotel now but it is in a location where it has to compete with other high end hotels so I wouldn't think that they would let it go to hell. One other thing and this is the absolute truth, there is a library across the street called the Dale Carnegie Library and a lot of male prostitutes would hang out there especially in the evening. Some of them would make an attempt to look feminine. There were times when the hotel guests (business men) would go out and return with one of those "things" and take them up to their room. Many times security would have to go and rescue the guest because they would end up getting robbed or beat up by one of those "things". I hope that I haven't told you too much but, I feel that it's important for people to know everything. I hope the "we" means your wife. Have fun.
