Relocating to Savannah
Hi.
I am relocating to Savanna. I am originally from sweden, Europe, but have lived in Florida the past 3 years. I was hoping that somebody could give me a clue or two about where to look for apertments in Savannah (in what areas). Any other pointers anybody would like to share about what to do and where to turn/go would be great too. Thanks in advance,

Lina, What area of town will you be working in? We lived in the historic district where my husband worked, and loved it as it was in the midst of everything that is happening. If you are working on the southside though, that might be too much of a commute to handle. I'm not that familiar with the southside (with everything we needed in the historic district, there was no need to go down there) so can't help with apartments in that area.
Many of the old row houses in the historic district have been converted into apartments, or have apartments in detached carriage houses. These can be beautiful...tall windows, high ceilings etc.
We surprised ourselves and absolutely loved living in Savannah. We'd been transferred from Dallas where we'd lived for 17 years and it had become home. I approached the move with some trepidation, but it was a terrific place to live, and I hated to move on when we were transferred again.
Many of the old row houses in the historic district have been converted into apartments, or have apartments in detached carriage houses. These can be beautiful...tall windows, high ceilings etc.

Thanks for your help. I will be working around Bay street, right by the river. I assume that the historic district would be a good place to start, since it is so close and seam to have everything one needs. Would you know any realestate agent to contact or where to turn from here? Thanks again,

Lina, We lived on Bay St too, which is where my husband worked. You will have all the historic district to choose from and will be able to walk to work.
Two realtors who work primarily in that area, are Cora Bett Thomas, and Cecelia Dunn. Both have realty companies with their names as the company name, and both specialize primarily in sales, but if they don't do rentals as well, they can at least steer you in the right direction. If you find an apartment in the historic district it will be a carriage house, or an apartment in one of the row houses. These places have tons of character.
There are some apartment complexes as you head out toward Wilmington Island, the next most convenient area, but they won't be as convenient, or have the character of a downtown apartment.
I hope you enjoy living there even a fraction as much as we did. It is a very warm, welcoming city. We were surprised--we felt a small southern town might be sort of a closed society, hard to break into, but it wasn't in the least. If I can help in any way with other questions you might have, I'd be glad to try.

Thanks so much for you suggestions. You have been very helpfull. I'm sure that I will enjoy Savannah! Do you have any other suggestions when it comes to dining out, coffee houses or bars? What else is there to do in Savannah that I should not miss? I appriciate your help.
