Redwood National Park

I have always wanted to see these grand trees. I like trees.

How is the condition of the park lately and what other areas should I consider?.

We'll be travelling from the east coast perhaps thinking sometime this autumn, so we would be starting at an airport.

Thanks for any and all ideas for great drives and destinations

Might consider Yosemite or Sequoia National Parks. The trees aren't as tall but far bigger in diameter and mass. I've seen the sequoia and plan on seeing the Redwoods the end of this month.

Are you flying into San Francisco? If you are...you know what that means...don't you?

Can't help you with the park, but if you decide to make this part of a larger trip to Northern California, I might be able to help with other spots of interest.

No plans iamq, just considering and when I did a search here on the forums, not many hits came up for RNP. Call this an exploratory thread! Wondering how the area has held up thru wildfires etc

Fodor's Cat Herder !

I'm good for info on all the sights in Sonoma County and many in Mendocino County.

Why, we could have a lovely GTG at the Armstrong Redwoods !

The Park is currently in great condition. However, California budget cuts may affect the State Parks in that area by autumn. We don't know what will happen yet.

If you want to fly close in to the Park, there is an airport in McKinleyville that United services. From there, you will be an hour or so away from the trees.

There actually is a lot of good information about that area in this forum. You just need to search a little more carefully. This area is one of the most popular subjects in Northern California.

What about lodging in the area? My thought was to drive up from SFO,(11:00 arrival) stay overnight, spend the next day in the park, spend a second night and then drive south along the coast to Ventura at the end of next April.
