Hello rdbabaran, it would help if you posted what type of food you enjoy and about what you want to spend on meals but in the meantime here is the food/dining section from the San Francisco Chronicle. Go to the Search..top of the screen..and you will find at least a 100 reviews of restaurants in Berkeley and also in Oakland. I hope this gives you some idea as to what is available. Best regards.

In Berkeley:

For pizza, the Cheeseboard Pizza--they make one type of pizza each day and the line stretches out the door

For Chinese food, the Great Wall

Spenger's Fresh Fish Grotto <http://tinyurl.com/mngjj>
1919 Fourth Street
Berkeley, California 94710

I haven't been there in years, but remember a very pleasant dining experience there. The fact that they are now affiliated with McCormick & Schmick's probably is a good thing too.

I use to love Spenger's also but a Fodorite who lives in Berkely advised that Spenger's, since now owned by McC&S, is no longer any good. I haven't personally been there since they were bought out so I have no idea but usually local residents give accurate comments of restaurants in their area.

4th Street neighborhood in Berkeley has great restaurants. Cafe Rouge and Bette's Oceanview Diner are great for casual dining. Also Chez Panisse Cafe, Cesar are fantastic and located in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto. Pizza - try Pizza Rustica, Zachary's and Pizzaiolo. Also can't go wrong with any restaurant at Oakland chinatown. So many great restaurants on this side of the bay depending on what you're in the mood for.
