Rebooking fees-why I will now always AVOID flying Southwest
#21
The OP picked a Texas tag - probably because he was flying to Dallas. It actually belongs on the Air Travel board but since he had just registered he likely didn't know there is an air travel forum.
Wonder if he was dumb enough to register and post this on flyertalk

While I've never changed a flight to an earlier one whether there was a fee or not, I know lots of people who have and then laugh when I learn "I arrived earlier (on time) than the flight that actually left earlier."

schmerl, I saw the commercial last night, and you're right, they say it all there!
OP won't be back, they have all the signs of "post and run".
The other funny thing is the OP's statement that he waited an hour and kept the $100 out of Southwest's pocket...ummm, If he objected to spending it, how was it getting into SW's pocket?
BTW just flew Southwest today, no problems at all. Flight on time and arrived a few minutes early.

Hawksbill,
"I don't think Southwest did anything wrong in this case, but I think maybe all the piling on the OP may be a bit excessive, no?"
With people as dumb as the OP, you really need considerable emphasis in order to pierce the outer layer and give them the first clue as to their own stupidity. Were this not true, the dope would have figured it out long before being dumb enough to press "submit" here.

We will never see or hear from OP again. He joins just to post one rip at SW. It is game. Probably an Am airline employee that is getting hurt by the ad. SW has been gaining market share in our area with they general approach of no fees.

I still see can't see how all of this hostility to malinc benefits any of us.
If he or she is an employee of another airline who made up a story about Southwest, then that would be a shameful and unethical and abuse of this forum. But I don't see any reason to think that's what happened. For one thing, if malinc were going to make up a lie, then why not make up one that's actually damaging? He/she said that Southwest's ad campaign is misleading, but then proceeded to cite an example in which Southwest wasn't actually misleading at all. That seems honest to me.
Also, I personally don't mind it someone joins Fodors just to post one comment about a bad experience with an airline, or a hotel, or whatever (although it would best if people at least chose the appropriate one of the forums to do so). I would like to hear about such experiences. And I'd also like to hear from others who had more positive experiences, so that I can draw my own conclusions.
I do think people who sign up and post a negative comment should stick around for further discussion, after doing so. But I don't think that one's newbie status alone diminishes the utility of his or her comment. And I can't blame malinc for running away after being called "evil," idiot," "freak," "dimwit," etc.

Basically it's entertaining. We know the "type" of poster and no one really thinks he or she will be back.
And just in case anyone out there thinks there is anything of merit in OP's post, I think it's been thoroughly debunked.

Southwest brags about "no change fees", but it might cost you a lot more to change a flight on Southwest than it would on another airline.
The OP has had better experiences with other airlines so will not fly Southwest anymore. I don't see why this is something that merits hostility whether the OP will be back or not.
