Have been to several time share presentations over the past 10 years. Have not made a purchase as we have always been able to rent a week for 500.00 to 800.00 at the time we want to go and to the places we want to go..no initial purchase and no taxes and maintenance fees (which are paid as long as you own the week and will only increase over time!) I see your point Al...

they do not make financial sense...filled with marketing costs...and generally not pleasant places...for example, we can stay at Kapalua Villas for less than purchasing some time share....just figure out what they charge for a week, multiply it by 50 and ask yourself would you buy the unit for that? the markups are gross..if ya gotta, please buy a resale!

I am not going to discuss whether timeshares are a good or bad investment. After all buying a Cadillac is not a good investment but people do it. I just consider timeshares to be one of the luxuries of life. You can buy a pretty decent timeshare for $2000-2500 if you look around.
I strongly disagree with the previous message from Ron and Nancy. They stated that timeshares "..and generally not pleasant places". They must only be familiar with the old first generation motel conversions. I have stayed at several very luxurious timeshare resorts. I have stayed at Hilton, Mariott and other luxury timeshares that have a great deal to offer.
