Ramada East Side- NYC

Hi, is anyone familiar with this hotel or the area? It's on 30th and Lexington. My husband and I are going in a couple of weeks and this was about all we could afford (without sharing bathrooms). I've checked Tripadvisor and Fodors and some other sites and the reviews were pretty good. Thought I'd post here and see if anyone had any comments.

Ramada must have purchased it fairly recently. It was a sro hotel a few years ago and had a full restoration about 5 years ago. The lobby is small but there is a cafe on the first floor.

There are a few restaurants on Lex and around the corner on 3rd. There is also a couple of grocery stores on 3rd Ave at 31st so you could get some breakfast goods, sodas and munchies for your room, and help keep some costs down.

The hotel is in a fairly quiet area, (used to live a block away), so you should not have problems with noise at night.

You are within walking distance of the shopping area on 34th St and close to subway and bus lines (the Lex Ave subway is actually on Park Ave and 33rd st, just a block or so away from the hotel).

Have a great time and if you need any other suggestions for restaurants in the area, let me know.

I'm sure it's fine, but you've got me curious about the price. How inexpensive it? Are you sure you can't do better on Priceline??? Look at biddingfortravel.com & see what people are paying.

mclaurie, the hotel works out to be about $108/night. I've been checking Bidding For Travel, but I haven't seen any successful bids at a decent price for my dates. I have seen a few unsuccessul bids at around $120-140 (3 and 4*.

Responding to myself in case someone does a search. We stayed here for 4 nights and were pretty pleased. It was clean and comfortable enough. While the room wasn't large, it wasn't tiny either (I would guesstimate it to be about 12x12). Room had an average sized TV, iron, hairdryer, and coffeemaker. Location is decent, within walking distance to many areas including the Village and Times Square (not a short walk, but definitely doable). If you don't want to walk far, there are 2 subway stations nearby. It's not in the most happening area, but if you don't mind that (or prefer it) and want to save a little money without giving up basic comforts, I would look into this hotel.

One note- this is an Applecore hotel, but the rates on the Ramada site were a good $20 less a night than on the Applecore site.
