Quick/Inexpensive suggestions needed close to NYC around Labor Day

We are from the city and are exploring things to do with our infant. PA Dutch would be a good idea but we did that recently. Also have done the Baltimore Harbor.

Any suggestions for some locations that's infant/toddler friendly? Our baby is 13 mths old. We are desparately in need of a break and cannot spend a lot of $$$. Don't want to fly either. Would like to keep drive time under 6 or 7 hrs. each way.
Thanks for any feedback.

Maybe you could find an inexpensive motel at the Jersey shore. Pt. Pleasant Beach is toddler friendly. They have a boardwalk with kiddie rides and a pretty decent aquarium as well. The beach is clean, and it is only about 1 & 1/2 hours out of the city.

How about New Hope, PA? There are little inns, B&Bs and motels in the area, it's charming (OK, a little bit hokey), lots of funky shops-- a nice walking town, not too far from Manhattan. You can also hop SEPTA into Philadelphia when you get sick of all the antiquing....

What about traveling on the train? Amtrak goes to several destinations from Penn Station that may suit your needs.

I'm usually a HUGE advocate of taking the train, but traveling light with a 13-month-old is nearly impossible, and would be much more of a hassle (and expense) than driving, IMHO. A housekeeping unit (i.e., with kitchen) at the Jersey Shore sounds about right to me.

Wow, this board moves fast. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. We will look into the Jersey Shore option. It's always trying very difficult trying to find things to do with young babies.

I did think of the train but realied that the little man who's now crawling would go nuts!

If all else fails, we could do Pa Dutch again.

Philadelphia has plenty to do for children. The Please Touch Museum, Franklin Insititute, Philadelphia Zoo, and the Academy of Natural Sciences are some of the kid friendly attractions in Philly

Wow, I just didn't think of the Poconos, thanks Melissa! The philly suggestion is also good. I'll start looking at reasonable/kid friendly places to stay in the Poconos. If you know of any let me know. Maybe I will post another message about places in the poconos.

Many thanks to all.

Melissa, could you tell me what resort is near the animal park, water park and the falls. I've also posted a question about suggestions for the Poconos.
Thanks.
