Questions re: Sheraton Moana Surfrider

We're booked at the Surfrider at the end of July. At this point, we are only guaranteed a city side room. Does anyone have experience staying in one of those rooms? Will the street noise be a problem? Is it worth paying an additional $155 to guarantee an ocean-view room in the Historic Wing? Would you pay an additional $245 to guarantee an ocean view room in the Diamond or Tower wings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Moana, as it is known, is such a wonderful hotel. Take in a tea while you're their. Sunday brunch is nice too. The rooms will have AC, but you may hear street noise. I might pay extra for the old wing, but I wouldn't pay extra for a DH view...you can see it from the beach. have a nice time!

I stayed in a city-view room a couple years ago and was miserable! It was really noisy due to outside noise. I would think that the ocean-view rooms are quieter, but I don't know for sure. The ocean-view rooms look over the pool area and restaurant, so you may get noise from that as well. I would not recommend staying in the new tower since it is completely bland and characterless. Why stay at the Moana Surfrider if you're going to stay in a tall modern building?

In my opinion, if you're willing to plunk down $400 for a room at the Moana, you might as well book a room at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental. It's not in Waikiki (which I think is good), but is a short drive away if you feel you need to be with thousands of other tourists. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I stayed there in October and started with a city side room. The windows are paper thin and you will here noise from 6:00 am to midnight. Changed to oceanside but it was about 50 dollars a night more. Maybe that is because it was available and we didnt reserve in advance. World of difference. Here the music in the evening and the ocean the rest of the time. The pool area was always laid back when we stayed there. Great place to stay. Loved sitting in the courtyard in the evening as well. email me if you like more info.

Depends on where you live now Laura. I stayed in the city rooms about a year ago and slept like a baby. I also live in Manhattan. I love this hotel but if you are ultra sensitive to sound than perhaps you should listen to earlier posts.

I strongly don't recommend a city side room, my sister and I were trying to sleep but at 3am to no avail, as she was getting married the next day she started stressing out and rang the front desk, and miraculously an ocean room that was not available prior, was now. As she continued on with her honeymoon, she had the room booked for another 2 nights which I had the pleasure in staying. There is nothing like falling asleep with the sound of the waves breaking by the shore, get an ocean room.
This also proves if u don't make a fuss they will brush u off, she also had a bad experience with the limo they arranged for her to take her to the church........but that's another story!
