Questions about Provincetown
I am planning my first trip to Provincetown and am trying to do some preliminary research. I am leaving from northeast Ohio (Cleveland or Akron airports) and don't even know which major airport is closest to Cape Cod. Also, if we are planning on staying in Provincetown the entire time, should we plan on renting a car? (Other than for getting there from the airport). I have seen on previous posts that much of the town is within walking distance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Logal Airport in Boston is probably closer, but TFGreen Airport (Providence) would be a LOT less hassle and not much farther. If you're really staying in town, you can probably fly or get a bus right into P'town from either Providence or Boston. But a car would be SO handy and nice for getting to the lovely beaches etc. in the area.

If you are going in season (June - Sept) you won't need a car. There are trolleys that run the entire length of Commercial street out to Herring Cove and Race Point Beaches. They make the loop in about 20 minutes.
There are tour busses that will take you through Provincetown & The National Seashore and also a dune buggy tour. If you do bring a car you will have to pay to park in town and again at the beaches.
I don't know about Providence but in Boston you can take a bus a plane or fast ferry (in season) to Provincetown. The airport in RI is also about 10 miles from downtown providence.

Several people I know who live in Boston have told me that their preferred way of getting to P-town is by ferry. It's a beautiful trip, it's convenient and you don't have to be stuck in Rt6 traffic.
You will have a great vacation. It's a cool town to hang out in and the nearby Cape Cod Nat'l Seashore is spectacular.
As an aside for vacation reading, check out the historical fiction book, Cape Cod by William Martin.

You would fly to Logan in Boston. Then you could hop on Cape Air, the commuter airline, and go right to Provincetown. I do not think you need to rent a car unless you plan on seeing the rest of the Cape. P-town is very small and it's easy to walk everywhere. Parking in the summer (if that's when you're going) is a headache anyway. Provincetown is lots of fun!!

Hi RockGirl
If you are coming in from Mid-June to Labor Day, fly into Logan airport, and take the ferry from Boston to Provincetown. No need to rent a car if you are planning on just staying in PTown. The traffic can be a hassle just getting on the Cape, to PTown after the mid-cape highway ends, and in PTown itself, as traffic is a very slow crawl down busy Commercial St.
Happy travels!

I flew from Cleveland to Providence on Continental. Very easy. Much cheaper than Logan airport. Personally, I wouldn't want to stay in Providence the whole time. A day trip from Hyannis was enough for me. The town is very small. Don't know if whale watching is in season up there in the summer months. Just my thoughts.
