Prop Plane to Lanai

Has anyone ever taken a prop plane over to Lanai from any of the other islands? Was it a very bumpy and nauseous ride?

Yes, we have flown to Lanai in a prop plane. There is no problem and you will enjoy the flights. They are not as small as some of the two passenger ones we have flown the Caribbean. Small planes are much safer than the large jets.

We have flown a prop plane from Honolulu to Lanai. I believe it was on Island Air. The flight was very smooth and because they fly much lower it was fun to watch the scenery out of the window. These are large prop planes so are not bumpy like a small one might be. Don't worry.

"Small planes are much safer than the large jets." ??!!!!!??

It is my understanding that it is common knowledge that the exact opposite is true.

Noach - don't mix pilot error with the safety of the plane. Small planes have a glide angle, in contrast I don't think jets have any. Without power the jet drops like a rock and sinks like a rock in water. In a jet you go down by lowering power and you drop as you would in an elevator. Small planes can glide to a safe landing without power if there is reasonable space available. Also they float longer in the water. Don't mix the accident rate of small personal planes flown by private pilots with those flow by experienced pilots. Almost all of accidents are due to pilot error. Small planes used for passenger service generally have very experienced pilots that can handle most normal emergencies. Further, it is much easier to get out of a small plane as compared to the typical jet. I could be wrong but I always feel more comfortable in small planes with a good pilot when I am going to out of the way places where airports are minimal or small. By small planes I am talking about those that hold 10 or less passengers.
