Post theatre dinner?
Hi I've read a few posts reccommending restaurants in mid-town pre-theatre but what about post-theatre? For us it would be impossible to eat at 6. Will places be closed at approx 10pm? We are going to see Spamalot (starts at 8)and Jersey Boys (starts at 7) and would like to stay in the area. We don't mind how much we spend and are as happy with a really good burgher or steak as other more fancy foods but preferably NOT Italian. Any reccommendations? Thanks!

Everyplace will be open at 10pm. For steak, you might like Quality Meats...a few blocks north of the theatre district. Orso is in the district and is a classic after-theatre place. If you want to die more with locals than tourists, try 44 1/2 or Taboon, both on Tenth Avenue which is an easy walk from the theatres.

Two of the most popular after theatre places are Joe Allen's and Angus MacIndoe's, the latter is a newer place started by the former long time manager of the former.
Angus MacIndoe's in VERY close to Spamalot. Joe Allen's in on 46th (next to the above mentioned Orso -- but that IS Italian).
Both are sort of semi casual places, think brick and wood tables. Both will be filled with theatre goers, actors, and backstage people. Hamburgers, steaks, even omelettes are part of the menus which are quite similar.
Joe Allen's requires a reservation -- you can call exactly one week before, no earlier than that. Angus MacIndoe's you can probably get in without a call (it's three floors high), but I'd still call to make a reservation.
PS, we always like to do a cocktail before theatre and always eat AFTER the show as well. Stop into Sardi's across the street from Spamalot before the show at either the downstairs or upstairs bar for a friendly drink and some of their great horseradish cheese spread to hold you over.

We're going to Les Halles after one of our shows. (Wicked starts at 7, and I just can't eat at 5.) We made the reservation for 11pm, so we'll just eat a big lunch. I made it late because I'm not sure how long it will take to get from the theatre to the restaurant. It'll be after Jan. 1, so hopefully not too many crowd/too much traffic.

All the restaurants in the theater district stay open late. Many around town do too. Menupages.com now has a "features" tab that allows you to select features like "open late." Spamalot's in the west 40's, Jersey Boys in the west 50's. I'd do Joe Allen after Spamalot. After Jersey Boys you you could go to the newly re-opened Russian Tea Room---or if you want to hear more music, Iridium Jazz club is close. http://www.iridiumjazzclub.com/

Broadway Joes? I've never heard a good word about that place, except people mentioning that they got a good "deal" there. If for some reason you do go, be sure to clip a coupon for it as they are available everywhere, and surely if you paid full price you're being ripped off as the vast majority who go there are at discount.

Wow, thanks everyone. This is a far more responsive forum than the Asia one I've been hanging about in recently! I've been checking out some of these suggestions and they're really helpful. Any comments on these other places I've picked out for our non theatre nights: goblin market, pastis, buddakan, spice market and jazz Standard?
