On Maui they are illegal to operate from Dev 15 to May 15 because the noise affects the whale migration patterns. But, Riggsie, you might want to research the damage jetskis do the environment in general first. The may be fun for the riders, but they do disturb the turtles, the dolphins, other sea life and the reef. They also dump a lot of pollutants into the water. They have been banned at the Everglades and elsewhere for the damage they do to the eco-system.

Here 2day gone 2maui - I assumed that the jet skis were not disturbing any other sea life or they would not be operating. Maui County should protect all sea life not just the whales...you have changed my mind. Mahalo!

I went to Hawaii last summer on a shoestring and had the best time I've ever had. I spent $475 for airfare from LAX to Honolulu, $400 (plus tax) each week (2 weeks) at the Hawaiiana Hotel which had a kitchenette. With the groceries, souvineers, tropical drinks & such, I probably spent about $500 while I was there. But I didn't do many activities that cost $$ - so that's where I saved. I agree that it's time to go back again .....

Bashful, I've read in so many guides about the Hawaiiana Hotel. It sounds like the place has a lot of Aloha spirit...... Is the staff as friendly as I read it is? Was this you and a spouse, and and did you have one of larger rooms at the Hawaiiana? Now that we're retired, we may go for a less expensive hotel, and stay longer in Honolulu on one visit, and see all the things on Oahu that we're interested in! My biggest concern is that a place is very clean and safe... doesn't have to be fancy. (Have heard the pool is pleasant there........and very sociable.)
