Please help Palm Springs hotel
We are going to PS in mid june with two teenage girls.
We have booked hotel Zoso but after reading some other posts am worried that this hotel may be in difficulty. Should we change and any other recommendations eg La Quinta or Marriott Desert Springs. Thank you

La Quinta and Marriott Desert Springs both have very nice pool and common areas that your teenage girls would enjoy. However, they might prefer something closer (walking distance) to the shopping & entertainment areas of Palm Springs or Palm Desert. In that case, check out the Rancho Las Palmas Marriott (Palm Desert) or the Hyatt Regency Suites (Palm Springs).
Even though Zoso is still offering great deals (on Travelzoo, etc.), June is off-season and you can get terrific rates at all of the better properties in the desert.

HI..
We got a great deal on Expedia in June to the Desert Springs for under $200 but I checked and the Grand Hyatt in Indian Wells is $141 for 4..
It will be too hot to be walking around. The girls will want to be at big pools and you can have lunch at the pool with the mister's and I think this would be a better choice for you and your family..
Have fun!

Hard to say what will happen at ZOSO. Maybe they will be ok or maybe the doors will be closed suddenly---who knows?
A business associate of mine stayed at the Hyatt in downtown P.S. in the last 3 weeks. He said there was mold---MOLD!!!---on the walls of his room from some water problem and the hotel was generally looking pretty sad. He also said the teenaged staff at the front desk didn't seem to care much about anything. He checked out after one night.
I highly suggest you shop the other big resorts, as the season is ripe for a deal or package. LQ Resort, Renaissance Esmeralda, Marriott DSR and Las Palmas, Lodge at Rancho Mirage, Hyatt Grand Champions.
The teens might also enjoy Knott's Soak City, a big teenager fest in the summer.
Have fun.

Hi. My husband & I celebrated our 10 yr anniversary @ Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa located in Indain Wells. Great time. The hot sunny days and relaxing were just what we needed. The pool, hot tub, and room was the best! I have never slept in such a soft bed. Staff was friendly and helpful.
I didn't care for the food or for my massage. It was done by an Asian lady named Axeing. Not only could I not understand her terrible English, she was very rough. I felt worse when I came out then when I went in. When I told her that she was being rough, she was a little better. Since I was not happy, I spoke to the Manager. Mandy was very professional and took the whole amount off my bill. I was pleased. I highly recommend staying at The Esmeralda.
Browsing the shops in the different cities were fun. I saw alot of people walking their dogs. The whole area is very pet friendly.
Had good Mexican Baja Fresh. It's in Rancho Mirage. If like Indain, there is a good buffet at Monsoon in Palm Desert.
In Palm Springs on Thur.nights there is a street fair. Walking the streets in down town, is great for people watching, seeing the entertainers and looking at all kinds of stuff.
LA: Hacienda hotel is a old crapped out place! It's located near LAX. We were going to stay for 2 nights but after a horrible nights stay, we only stayed one night. The bed is hard as a rock and we had to call 3x asking for towels. Staff is okay. For the same price we got a king n/s room with a hot tub at Holiday Inn in Lawndale. Felt very safe. Great staff. Lawndale is 10 miles from LAX and close to lots of dining, shopping and to Redondo and Manhattan Beach.
Saw a wonderful funny musical called: Bark. It's the canine version of Cats. Great cast. It's in W. Hollywood. Worth the money. Go see it.
Radio/TV museum was okay. Nothing to write home about. The one in NYC is better.
I used to live in The San Fernando Valley and Redondo Bch back in the late 80's. Have been back a couple of times and love the fast pace, sunny days, good dining and entertainment.

As for the La Quinta, I really liked the pool layout there - lots of small pools with the rooms around them, there is at least one big pool for the resort (near the spa, I think). Very relaxing to have a pool virtually all to yourself!

From Manhattan Beach, I'd take the 405 north to the 105 east to the 605 north to the 60 east. Some will say take the 91 east, to the 60 east, but that to me is still such a mess with construction that it can be confusing to make the transition from the 91 to the 60.
What I do is turn to KNX 1070 or KFWB 98 both AM radio stations with frequent traffic reports all day long. If you hear there is a "SIG alert" on the 60 east for instance, then you can keep going north on the 605 until you reach the 10 freeway before heading east. (The 60 eventually turns into the 10 east which leads to the desert)
I'd leave between 10 am and 1 pm to head out to the desert. (L.A. traffic can be sad especially in the morning or afternoon) Have fun but be prepared for some nasty heat day and night.

I just came back from PS and would avoid the east part of the 60 (beyond the 15) at the moment, due to construction in Riverside and Moreno Valley. You want to get up to the 10 (take either the 57 or the 15 to get from the 60 to the 10).
BTW the lights are still on at Hotel Zoso, but I saw another news story that the General Manager resigned.

PSLocal,
Thanks for that update about the Hyatt (mold, eewww!).
mlgb,
Thanks for the update on road construction on the 60. We're going out next weekend --would the 105 to the 605 to the 10 work okay? We have the Fasttrack transponder, but I still would like to avoid the 91 and the 60.
