I have never eaten at the CIA, I know they take reservations WAY in advance,so you would need to do it as soon as you can...they must have a website, sorry,no help therere: room types in the B Arms,we stayed in a double room with a four poster bed, at the front of the inn, you can sort of mention which side of the inn you would like to be on-that is the better side, they have an annex which is newer and has fireplaces, we have stayed there and it is a walk or very short drive from the B Arms..both are great, although one thing bothered me the first night...the stairs are not carpeted in the Inn and you can hear people clumping up the stairs at night, but not too late, and I slept like a baby in that big soft bed! We have breakfast at a place across the street, used to be a pharmacy in the 1800's/ early 1900's, there are still signs of the old pharmacy- bottles etc..it is very popular for breakfast, huge pancakes etc. There are so many places to eat there, two/three restaurants a block. There is a great "pub" in the Inn, it is the original part of the building, from the days of the Revolution..they have a bar and tables and you can have lunch or a snack, there is a restaurant in the Inn, we haven't eaten in it, prefering the French place that I am still unable to remember the name of, beyond Le Petit....!Call the Inn, see when you can stay-I will work on the names of good eateries, and will post again...C

A great place for breakfast in Rhinebeck is Blondie's, about a block from the Beekman Arms.
As for things to see, there is a wide choice, with Montgomery Place in nearby Annandale at the top of the list. Also, the Vanderbilt Mansion and FDR's home and museum in narby Hyde Park.
Check out these two websites for info on area sites:

Thanks for the tips on eateries. I did look at the Beekman Arms website but it is not very specific about rooms. I called, and the only room they had available with a four-poster bed AND a fireplace was only available for 1 nite -this was in the Courtyard bldg.. They had 2 other rooms in the Firehouse or the Carriage House that had only one or the other, and were smoking rooms, which I would prefer not to have. I almost put a deposit on the 1 nite, but it seems too short since we would not have even 1 full day. The representative I spoke with said I can keep calling for cancelations. What do you think? Is it worth going for 1 nite? Thanks again for your helpful tips and information.

Last winter we went for Saturday nights a few times..you arrive as early as you can, let them know you are there, and then take off, have lunch,go antiquing, then go back, put your stuff in the room, have some sherry and loll around in your four poster bed, go to dinner, then next morning check out when it is check out time and go on your way,,,it is enough time for a weekend away. And will give you a taste and you will know if you want to do it again for longer..or never! Just because I love it there~ :0) ......C
