Please help choose which trail to horseback ride in glacier NP
Muleshoe outfitters offers trail rides in glacier, we will be there Sept. 10-13. I was planning to do the all day ride up to sperry chalet but I read a comment somewhere that there isn't much of a view on this trail. So is the ride through the trees worth it to get to sperry chalet? Surely the view is great at the top.
Also, they offer rides to Poia lake, cracker lake, and paradise valley (can't find anything on this area.) We just want to choose a ride with the best view. It doesn't have to be an all day ride.
I would appreciate any suggestions about the park. Thanks
Melanie

It is true there are very little views until you get to Sperry, but it is a nice area. We were there overnight and hiked up to the glacier, but I don't think you can do that if you are just out for a day ride.
You might want to ask this on the glacier chat page. Lots of helpful people there. http://www.glacier.national-park.com...d/glacchat.htm

Pianogirl, several years ago three others and I decided to do a trail ride with the park concessionaire out of the Many Glacier Lodge. Two of us were completely inexperienced and two were relative novices. As we gathered in the corral, three were already mounted, but I was still standing waiting for a horse to be assigned, a fight broke out between horses. The owner of the horses was hurt and had to be airlifted out of the area for medical treatment. My husband's horse spooked and ran into the parking lot full of buses.
Eventually everyone was settled in and we left for a ride. On the ride the "leader" disclosed that he had just arrived two weeks earlier and until then had never been on a horse (gee, that made three of us with no riding experience). On the return three of the horses decided to head for their stables before the ride ended. One horse bolted with a young girl rider. Our "leader" was of no use at all. I would suggest you get some references on the ride operators and be confident of your own ability to manage a horse. It really was not a good experience for novices.
