I live in Buffalo and I Absolutely suggest staying on the Canadian side. The dollar is real strong right now ($1.40-1.48) and it is alot nicer. There are beautiful parks throughout the area and of course all the goofy amusement houses (Ripley's, House of Dracula, etc). The US side doesn't have too much to offer, plus the view of the Falls is better on the Canadian side. RE hotels, it depends on what you want, there are many places to stay ranging from B&B's to luxury. I'll be glad to answer any specifics for ya, otherwise have fun, right now is a great time of year to visit!

Definitely the Canadian side! It is much, much nicer. Niagra Falls, NY reminds me of Atlantic City--run down right up to the national park of Niagra Falls, which is quite small. All the great views, restaurants, tours, etc. on the Canadian side. It is beautiful! Try to get to Toronto, too, about 2 hrs away. A beautiful city. Have fun!

If you do stay on the canadian side make sure you get reservations in advance. Even though you make 40 dollars on a 100 some of the hotels are over priced. Went there this past July and one hotel costed 199 for a queen size bed.Ok Canadian but it was 151 us, no real bargain. If you plan on going to the Casino after 9 there's a line 2 blocks long to get in. The best way as I see it is get a room near Buffalo and go into Canada because yes thats the best place to see the falls. Good Luck

... and if you go to the Canadian side of the Falls, try to visit the relatively new Butterfly Conservatory near the School of Horticulture gardens. It is a contained tropical paradise with a variety of absolutely beautifully coloured butterflies you won't see in this part of the world. Since this is a popular attraction it may be crowded certain time of the day. Suggest going in the a.m. as soon as it opens.

I certainly appreciated seeing the responses regarding Niagara Falls, because my husband and I have that as a final destination after a cross-country trip from LA. Are there any special gardens to see there? Visited Vancouver and Victoria in the spring and loved their gardens. Any other entertainment tips or special restaurants to try (we had caribou for the first time in Vancouver) would be appreciated also.

We had lunch in the Skylon Tower and it was expensive but what a wonderful view of the falls. The restaurant revolves. Our girls, now 20 and 23, wanted the Skylon Tower drinking glasses. They still use those stupid glasses and love them. Just about 15 miles down the road is the lovely little town of Niagara on the Lake. Nothing at all like Niagara Falls. You can stop along the way and see the river. The American dollar is strong BUT everything in Canada is 3 prices.
