Places to run on Kauai?

Where are the best places to run on Kauai? I have a couple of guidebooks that outline hikes, but I'm specifically curious about good places to run.

Thanks!

On the south shore, I run from around the Beach House restaurant up to the end of the road (it dead ends not too far past spouting horn) and back. I'm not sure what the distance is (3 miles RT?). It's a nice place to run though. There's a paved path along much of the way and very little traffic when we were there in Jan/Feb.

On the north shore, the daring folks run on the shoulder of the highway (yikes!). Princeville has jogging paths which are popular with runners -- and I've seen folks running the golf cart path at the Prince Golf Course in the early-morning hours before the golfers arrive.

There isn't much good running. If you are a trail runner, the trails are too muddy/rocky. My husband did do the Powerline trail one way, tho. In Kapaa, there is a pretty good beach path that starts in front of the Pono Kai and continues north along the shore and along the old ruined highway. Where are you staying?

We are staying 4 nights South Shore somewhere in Poipu Kai and 4 nights North Shore somewhere just past the Hanalei Colony Resort (we booked rooms through VRBO). I usually run about 50/50 trails vs. paved surfaces, but my trails out here in California are pretty well groomed. Hmm...

In Princeville, on the golf course cart path, just got back from there last week. Lots of people walking or running there every morning on the path.

You may need to figure on minimal running while you're there! Not too familiar with Poipu area, but up by Hanalei I think all you'll have to run on is the highway! Narrow, no shoulder, and the locals don't give you much room. You could perhaps take the car up to Princeville and at least run thru quiet neighborhoods. Look for side streets into residential neighborhoods to get away from the traffic. Trails are way too slick & rugged for good running. We too are Calif. runners, have been to Hawaii many times & adore it, but running there is a pain.

Thanks for the info. I had already decided to cut back on my running while on vacation, but since I'm planning on at least doubling my calorie intake, I figured I should still do something!! Ha!
