Place For DRINKS AND VIEW OF NYC
Where is a good place to go for drinks and a view of NYC since the Trade Center is no longer there. Someone on this post suggested the Promenade Room, not The Rainbow Room. Where is it located? Also is the view good from The Mariott?

Well, there's the Peninsula Hotel's rooftop bar. Nice, but very pricey.
The Metropolitan Museum has a rooftop garden with a bar. It's very enjoyable, but few places to sit.
The River Cafe (I think that's what it's called) in Brooklyn will have a beautiful view of the entire Manhattan skyline.

Try the top of the Marriott in Midtown, it has a revolving bar that gives you a good view of all of the city, and its a little expensive, but you can order a couple of drinks, sit there for as long as you want and no one really bothers you to leave. I was there only last month and it was a very nice time...Best Wishes

The Promenade bar is part of the Rainbow Room complex at Rock Center.
The Met Museum rooftop bar has a very unique view of Manhattan. It is just above the trees with an ocean of green rolling out toward that great backdrop of the classic skyline on Central Park South. The best part is that it's free to go up and roam around if you like.
The Top of the Beakman Tower isn't a great view but it's a view nonetheless.
The View at the Marriott again isn't a great view, but it does revolve and that's nice.
A bit off the beaten path is the Terrace restaurant on West 119th Street. Never been, but I understand it's a great view.
It's kind of sad to think Windows on the World is gone, along with the Top of the 666, (now Grand Havana a private club), Top of the Park (now Trump International Hotel) and of course the privatization of The Rainbow Room, the Sky Club at the Pan Am (now Met Life) and the Cloud Club at the Chrysler Building. I would think New York could warrant a few more "view" rooms.

"The Greatest Bar on Earth" at Windows on the World was one of my favorite bars in New York. Having a drink (or two) there always reminded me of why I love living in NY. It got even better when Dale DeGroff, former bartender at the Rainbow Room, and possibly the countries foremost expert on cocktails, started working there.
Anyway, I digress. If you don't mind spending a bundle, then the PenTop Bar is really your best bet. The Rainbow Room is nice, but as previously mentioned, it is a quasi-private club. Check to see if they are letting in the general public that night.

We too enjoyed the revolving bar at the top of the Marriott Marquis during our visit last month, though it's only a "half view" -- you see the Chrysler Building and Empire; then revolve to look into a nearby office building; then wow, the New Jersey shoreline appears for a half hour, then another building. I recommend it though and it was pleasant. A neat 'nother place to go for a different "view" is Foley's Fish House in Times Square -- go after dark -- go just for a drink. You're at "billboard height" smack in the center of Times Square with those lights all around you and the people 7-8 stories below. It's smashing. Our first night we went to Foley's first, then up to the Marriott.
