Is Pittsburgh the closest big city to Lisbon, Ohio please? Am researching for a friend who has a son in prison there. Thanks. Have done mapquests, but other than Pittsburgh, don't know what other large city in any adjacent state or IN Ohio would be closest by car once they get there. Thanks!

Depends on what you consider as a "large city". For example, Youngstown, OH is only about 30 miles. But Pittsburgh is closer than Cleveland.

As for airports, the closest one with major commercial service is Akron/Canton. DL flies to Cincinnati and Atlanta. UA flies to Chicago. NW flies to Detroit, etc... Most with regional jets, except Detroit with a lot of turboprop.

rkkwan, thanks so much. I should have said with major air commercial service. They are down in Miami and didn't want to fly into lots of airports OR take turboprops, if they could help it. Sounds like Pittsburgh would be more direct, maybe through Atlanta, then they can drive the one hour straight shot to Lisbon. If you have any other suggestions or information it will also be appreciated as this information is. Thanks again!

Just a note, Pgh's airport is already about 18 miles west of the city so you'll miss all the city traffic.

Your friend can fly nonstop from Miami to Pittsburgh and then drive the 40 miles to Lisbon, OH.

(assuming you mean the Lisbon, OH in Columbiana County in eastern OH and not the Lisbon, OH, in Clarke County west of Columbus)

Sorry, the prison is in ELKTON, Ohio--is that on the eastern side of Ohio or western? I'm checking on usps.com for a county name and it's not coming up. Thanks in advance and thanks for everyone's help.

That's Columbiana County about 3 miles from Lisbon.

From the Pittsburgh airport take Rt. 30 W ( to East Liverpool) then Rt. 11 N to the Lisbon exit. The prison is about one hour from the Pitt. airport.
