Pirates in Charleston or Savannah?

I'm planning a sidetrip from Florida and Alabama, to Charleston and Savannah. My husband was watching a show on TV about pirates. He doesn't recall if it was Charleston or Savannah. Also, in the same show, it was talked about a restaurant/bar with pirate atmosphere. Can anyone guide me to this place????

You're looking for the Pirate's House restaurant in Savannah. It's very famous there. You should be able to find out more about it thru the web. Try Savannah.com. Good eating!

I just checked Savannah.com and I was right. Just click on restaurants and it has info on the Pirate's House. Good luck and have a nice trip.

You can walk through their gift shop and get a feel for the age of the building. Have a drink upstairs. As a restaurant...it's lacking, caters to the tourist trade almost exclusively, and a very very secondary player in Savannah's restaurant scene. Just my HO.

Ann, just my opinion, but I prefer Charleston over Savannah. It seems to be easier to get around (although that may be because I'm more familiar with Charleston), but away from the RiverWalk area, I think there is more to see in Charleston. Also, we did not see the vagrants in Charleston that we saw in Savannah. Again, just my opinion. Either city would be a treat. Have a good time.

In Charleston, take the tour offered at the Customs House...very interesting and worth it. We loved both cities..tho found Charleston to have even more to offer, visually, than Savannah. For really good ribs, visit "Stickyfingers," a chain, but with excellent quality.

I agree with most of the respondents that Charlestown has more to offer than Savannah. I disagree with some about the Pirate House resturant in Savannah however. I thought it was fabulous, not only was the food great but the atmosphere was very fun too.

Thank you so much for the replies. Is this the same Pirate's House that Treasure Island was written at? Again, thank you for providing some insight to these two cities....

Ann...that was written in Scotland. Lore has it that Blackbeard tunneled from the river up under the city though and of course, buried treasure somewhere around.

We just returned from Savannah with a stop over in Charleston - First time in Savannah and loved it - (second time in Charleston)- Previous info on this site helped us so much, but I think the two cities are completely different and equally enjoyable - saw no vigrants in either City and loved them both for different reasons.... try the Pink House for dinner - very enjoyable!!! By the way, stayed at the Hampton Inn - Historic District - great location ---

Pirates House...definitely not the most haute cuisine in Savannah or the one with the most 'local' menu, but still an interesting place to have a meal or a drink.
