Pigeon Forge in June

First time travellers to Pigeon Forge. We are taking 2 kids--ages 11 and 17. Any ideas of fun stuff to do? Ever try white water rafting? Staying at Hidden Mt. Resort. Has anyone stayed there? Appreciate any ideas.

Dear Jan,

Pigeon Forge will have too many things for your kids to do and invest their funds in. P.F. has earned Southern Living's best shooping readers award for many years now and my wife helps P.F. maintain that distinction.
Plenty of white water rafting all over East Tennessee and western North Carolina. If you have never enjoyed then you should. Note the higher tiered rivers usually have a 12 yr age limit.
I strongly recommend that you review road maps for the back roads and use them if possible as the main roads will be FULL of tourists from June to August. Also get out of P.F. and Galtinburg and enjoy the Great Smoky Mts. It the reason you visit. Go to Cade's Cove at Sunrise for a special trip around the loop.
I recommend Dollywood for the entire family. Good music, fun rides,, crafts and good food. Do the Roaring Fork moter Trail out of Galtinburg and take a picnic.
Finally punch in Tennessee for a state search and and pull up previous reports that have been submitted re trips to the GREAT Smoky mts. on the fodor's site. Good info. Welcome and we are glad to have you in Tennessee!

Jan...Please heed Jess's advise about the back roads! Traffic is a nightmare. Off season last fall it took us 1 1/2 hours to go 1 1/2 miles through PF. I can't fathom what it would be like in June. There was new back road construction going on when we were there, perhaps it will offer a little relief.

Jan,
Just returned from Pigeon Forge today after spending several days in P.F. and the Great Smokey Mts. If you want something to do, they have it. Especially for your children. Again, study the back roads or suffer in traffic in June.

We spent a week in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area last June. I would strongly recommend the Comedy Barn show. There are many shows offered throughout the week and it is advertised heavily. The price is reasonable but more importantly it was a clean, wholesome, family comedy show. There were six of us ranging in age from 5 to 56 and we all enjoyed ourselves.
