Lots of resorts, in order to make more money, particularly in the off-season, are letting in "day users" for a fee. What results is a pool party - tons of 20- and 30-somethings, all getting schnockered (I haven't seen so many empty beer bottles since I left my foreign au pair home alone for the weekend). They were perfectly nice, but it can get a little noisy. (Hotel guests obviously do not have to pay to use the pool)

*that does not sounds like fun to me at ALL.

That is what the Palm Desert Marriott turned into in the summer and it was a HUGE turn off for dh and I. We ended up at the Spa Pool instead but in general it seemed like major white trash (sorry folks) and I really did not want to go back in the summer.

The Montelucia has a second, "quiet" pool, which is also very nice and has none of the "distractions" of the main pool.

for weekend pool parties

We are looking for mid week, so we'd be safe from the throngs.

Hi sf!
Hoping you would chime in!
So you loved the Montelucia..good to know.
I'm not digging the free for all of the great 'unwashed' to crash the pool..no pun intended.
Hopefully that was a trial run and the resort won't do it this year.
Every 5* resort we've been to in PHX, have you wear a wristband and show 2 ID's for drinks and food.
$95.00 bucks...dang, that is an awesome deal!
So the rooms are large and the beds and linens are luxurious..wife will love that..how was the food?
Can't wait to hang there for the 4th of July..

Deb..I thought you wrote that you were safe from the 'thongs'

LOL! Well, those around me will be safe from thongs except the flip flop kind on your feet.

Deb = no thong zone

LOL
They should have signs made around certain pools and beaches with a 'No Thong Zone'.
Most of the people that wear them have no business doing so.

I suggest the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale. Have had some great spa treatments there, great customer service at the hotel, and only a block or two walking distance to the Kierland shopping area which has lovely shops and many good restaurants. The restaurants at the hotel are good, too.

Another recommendation is the Camelback Inn in Scottsdale. Have had some wonderful massages there. The spa is just gorgeous, and the scenery, while you are lying outside by the pool before or after your treatments, is spectacular.

Hi,I love all your suggestions. I am looking for a spa trip with my 23 and 19 year old daughters. Can go anywhere in U.S. first or second week of June. Is the Palms a good place? We would like exercise class, good food, not too expensive, pool and such. Thanks so much. We were thinking Texas as we are from PA and have never been there. Big snow here..26 inches makes me want to get scheduled and dream on!

We've never stayed at Royal Palms -- it looks very nice.

We love the Camelback Inn -- we got a good rate last June (but can't remember how much). They have a great spa and the dining is fantastic. The casitas are quite large.

We'll be returning shortly!

Thanks Deb!
We go for the 4th of July week with friends and I have a 3 day freebie at the Biltmore in the new part in a big ol'suite but where I can't wait to stay the remainder of the 4 days is at Montelucia for $99..wooooo hoooooo..love that rate for a 5*!

Love the Royal Palms and could dine at T. Cooks everyday and listen to the piano guy all week.

The Royal Palms needs a code and is available from their website, not Perfect Escapes. Anyone wanting the code, email me.
