STW-Looks like this storm was in June 2006. I do remember these storms growing up in Arizona. We used to put towels along all the door jams and along the window ledges to keep the dirt out. Even with the house shut up, the wind could force the dirt in. I was driving once when a storm like this came out. Couldn't even see the hood of my car. It was very scary. There have been quite a few deaths on the Interstate due to these storms.

Well, that's not the storm then! I saw it on the mid-day news. I can only imagine how horrifying it would be to get stuck in something like that. I understand visibility was something like 30 feet.

We Phoenicians experienced a 'haboob' yesterday. First drop of rain in three months! It is scary to be in one, but awesome to watch when you're not!

We just got back from the Boulders Resort in Carefree outside of Phoenix and the storm was pretty wild..tons of lighting, not much rain and the dust cloud we watched on TV since it was coming in from the south..
We don't get stuff like that in San Diego!

I didn't know about them either until I moved to Tempe. Second day there we went to see a movie and when we came out of the theater is was unreal! This sounds like it was a fierce storm, but sandstorms happen at least once or twice a year. It is amazing to watch the "wall" of sand come toward you!
