Philadelphia restauranthelp
Going to Philly the middle of March and need some help in choosing a restaurant. We are staying at the Sheraton Society Hill but don't necessarily need a place in that area. Would like a nice place with GOOD food. What are Fork and Blue Angel like as I have heard good things about them? What type of food do they serve and what are their prices like? Also, any great Italian restaurants. Thanks for you help.

Fork is funky-chic, comfortable, with good ingredients used in interesting but not outlandish ways. (The fresh ginger cake is terrific!) Price obviously depends on your # of courses, but about $50pp without wine is a good estimate. They do have a website with menus.
Ralph's in South Philadelphia is a great Italian restaurant; do get reservations, though, as it is deservedly popular. (I recommend the fettuccine alfredo.) Vetri gets very good reviews for upper-echelon Italian; haven't been there yet myself, though.
Have a lovely time!

My friend is a mafia princess from Philly and she thinks Ralph's is the bomb. Other good restaurants are Pod, Striped Bass, Deux Cheminees, Monte Carlo Living Room, Suzanna Foo, The Fountain, Jake's in Manayunk, The Devon, Gino's, and The Cheesecake Factory at KOP Mall.

I was in Philly last June and ate at Fork on a Saturday evening. We made a 7:30 reservation. Fork called to confirm during the day and we arrived a bit early and was seated immediately. We loved it! The menu varies daily (weekly?). We had a cocktail before dinner, wine, a lovely dinner, (a steak special with roasted potatoes and fresh vegetables), dessert (hmmmm..hazelnut crusted chocolate torte with fresh whipped cream!) and afterdinner drinks. We indulged! Definitely woth the $100.00 we paid. The waitstaff is friendly without going overboard. The food was wonderful. We then took a stroll along the local streets to look around. Went to South Street to people watch. All in all a lovely dinner! Enjoy your visit to Philly!

Sorry to be a contrarian, but we had dinner twice at Fork, and didn't like it either time. In that area we liked Buddakan.
We can second Susanna Foo, Striped Bass, both for expensive meals. We have had many good meals at Varalli (Sotto and Upstares). There are (too) many good restaurants in the area.
