Pennsylvania Hotel any good?

My family and I will be visiting New York soon, and we have booked reservations in Pennsylvania Hotel. Does anyone out there have any idea or experiences regarding this hotel? Do you think I made the right choice? How are the rooms? the service? the location? I'd appreciate it very much if someone would post a reply to my message as soon as possible. Thank you.

I haven't stayed there but have been on the lobby on numerous occasions and have read much commentary in this forum re/the hotel. The rooms are small but this is typical for NYC - very typical. It is clean and well run but a very large facility that caters to many tour groups. One could expect it to be a bit impersonal and busy in the public areas but I've never heard a negative thing about it. Its location directly across from Penn Station is convenient for Amtrak travelers and ther are numerous subway lines adjacent, in addition to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station being a few hundred yards away. The neighborhood is safe but rather dead at night - not many restaurants or shops open. It is a convenient location, however. I have stayed at the Stanford Hotel, much more intimate and quite nice, also moderate price. It's around the corner and a short block over, a fe doors from the Broadway Holiday Inn. The primary selling point of the location is easy adjacency to subways that get one downtown or uptown quickly. You can walk to the theatre district (less than a mile). If you do choose to stay there, do NOT go to the Lindy's coffee shop for breakfast (it's off the lobby on the front of the building). We paid $11 for two coffees, a hard roll and a VERY small OJ. My business acquaintance was paying but I was horrified. The next day I walked around the corner to the Croissant Shop (on the side of the hotel - it's a chain in NYC) and paid less than $3 for a cheese and bacon croissant that included an excellent cup of French roast coffee.

The Location is a conveinent one, but the hotel is Strictly TOURIST CLASS. the Public spaces are dowdy and worn. If you are not picky about where you stay, and got a great price ( should be under $120/nt) then ok, otherwise you can do alot better spending a bit more. Try the Roosevelt Hotel
