PALM SPRINGS: Anyone stayed at the HOTEL ZOSO or RIVIERA RESORT?

We're going to a conference in March, and these 2 hotels look sort of interesting.
HOTEL ZOSO
RIVIERA RESORT

Other hotels giving a good conference rate seem kind of blah:
Hilton Resort
Marriott Courtyard
Wyndham Palm Springs
Hyatt Regency Suites

Tripadvisor reviews are all equally mediocre.

We would love some direction, advice, comments to help us decide.
OR perhaps you've stayed elsewhere for under $200 per night that you could recommend.

Thanks so much!
Dina

Thanks. I found that post. You're right-almost exactly the same question was answered. But we are on more of a budget, unfortunately.
That makes it more difficult as there are many really nice, expensive places to stay. The trick is finding which one of these other places isn't so bad...
Anyone else?

For one night and if you are looking to stick to a budget then I'd say it's fine. Everywhere was clean, the room I stayed in was in good condition and the staff were all very helpful.

I stayed there for one night last April (I got it through Priceline). Yes, it's a bit of a walk to the main area where the bars and restaurants are located but we didn't mind that as we were only there for one night.

If the price is right, then I'd go for it.

Sorry, I should add that I was talking about the Riviera Resort!

I think Hotel Zoso is relatively new. It looks interesting from the outside.
March tends to be expensive so if you are on a budget it may be worthwhile taking one of the conference hotels. You might get more for your money.

You could check some of the boutique inns mentioned, eg, Chase, Desert Hills Resort Hotel, Casa Cody. But I bet they will either be booked or not cheap.

Chase hotel's rates: standard room $109/119, w/kitchen $119/139

when we were there the kitchen had 2 gas burners, small fridge, microvawe, no coffeemaker (coffee 24/7 in the lobby), buffet breakfast included, some dishes (no tea kettle and no pots nor pans)

It is a great place location-wise. For more info, if needed, find my report.

Thanks for all the advice.
Yes, some were too expensive--ie Casa Cody.
But Chase looks great. I found their website, but not your trip report, Faina.
I'll call them tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I ended up booking the Hotel Zoso. It had availability, the price was right, and it looks sort of cool--boutique-type atmosphere. I"ll let everyone know how it was.
Thanks for you input!

Just out of curiosity I read the Tripadvisor reviews on Hotel Zoso. Sounds like it has potential, but I noticed a few people had problems with their reservations being accurate. I would be sure to print out confirmation of the rate that you got, and call a month or so ahead ot reconfirm. Be sure to report back!

Interesting...
They told me they don't email or send reservations. Just gave me a confimration # and I took the girl's name.
Maybe I should insist they send me one?!
Thanks.

Thanks, Faina.
What a great trip report.
The Chase was booked, but it's good to know for the future...

I am going to try the restaurant "eat at the desert" inside Hotel Zoso next week. I'll post a report.

I was out in Palm Springs this week. Weather was fantastic, low 80's and low humidity. The Hotel Zoso is the old Marquis, if anyone remembers that. They have done a beautiful job with the lobby and the rooms. Seems very upscale in the modern boutique style. I would definitely have chosen this over the Riviera Resort! The courtyard is a bit, well, barren. There is valet covered! parking, the sign says it is included in the room rate and for those eating at the restaurants. The location is very good, halfway between the Casino and the old Village. You can walk out the back of the Hotel and Sherman's Deli is right there. The Fisherman's Market is a block away, and Johannes is at the end of the block to the south. I chatted with a woman who says they have been plagued with delays. Her conference was pushed back from December to March, maybe it is the one Dina is going to? (For an entrepreneur's magazine). Anyway, she was happy with her hotel room.
The restaurant that I went will become the breakfast/lunch casual dining location whenever Nick N Stef manages to open. Projected date is March. The current dinner menu is posted online at http://www.patinagroup.com/eatDesert/ Food was creative, high quality ingredients, a bit less expensive than Johannes, but not a budget choice. The drinks at the bar were pricy but you'll only need one!

Thanks, mlgb!
My conference is the CUE (Computer Using Educators) and it's in March. Everything sounds great about the Zoso, and I can't believe Patina opened a restaurant there!

Are these really good places to eat? I'm really unfamiliar with anything in Palm Springs--haven't been there in YEARS (or I should say DECADES)!
Did you make a reservation at EAT at the DESERT?

THanks again,
Dina

Dina, from what I was told, when Nick & Stef's opens, "eat" will only serve lunch and breakfast. It was not busy at all when I was there for dinner. Since they have only been open for a few months, there may be more traffic when you get there. Probably safest to call. I would probably eat at "eat" for breakfast & lunch if I were staying in the hotel. The bar menu looks like a shorter version of the restaurant menu.

Johannes is very good, it's also a bit pricy. Fishermans' Market is a fast serve fish place, pretty good. Sherman's is a deli, so it depends if you like deli food. I was more familiar with the Palm Desert/La Quinta area than PS, but friends used to drag me to Sherman's before they opened a branch in Palm Desert. In PS, I've heard Spencer's is good. I liked Kaiser Grill when they were in PD, and they are in PS now.
