Palm Coast Florida Thanksgiving Week

Headed down to Palm Coast, staying at the Hammock Beach Resort, for a wedding on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Will be there most of the week. Looking for things to do and see. Don't want to fight the crowds at Disney, although I haven't been there since it opened in '72! We are a mid-50's couple who like to be a bit active. Is there anywhere to rent bikes? Interesting natural areas? I've heard that St. Augustine would be a good bet to hang out for a day and have a good meal. What is at Cape Canaveral these days? Is there a museum?
Thanks in advance!

If you're thorough, you could spend as many as three days seeing the attractions in St. Augustine. Here's my trip report from earlier this year:

and for food here as well as further south in the state:

bachslunch is right. St. Augustine is good for much more than a day. Head north via A1A to St. Augustine as there is much to see and do there and many good and reasonably priced restaurants. But on your drive to St. Augustine up A1A, just after Marineland and the bridge over Matanzas Inlet, stop to see Fort Matanzas http://www.nps.gov/foma/index.htm a very interesting and often overlooked (by tourists) historical site.

Thanks for the help. We enjoy local restaurants, not anything fancy. Regional food is especially interesting. Any suggestions?

Any knowledge of bike paths and/or rental shops?

Cape Canaveral contains the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Center: http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/

and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge: http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/

Oops! Forgot to say an Atlas V rocket will be launching from the air force station at the Cape on Nov. 25th. It will be an impressive sight!

Very cool! Is there a good place to see the launch outside of the space center? Will it be completely booked at the center for that day?

Launch date just got changed yesterday to Saturday, Nov. 26. The launch window is from 10:02 am to 11:45 am.

The rocket launches from Cape Canaveral AFS can easily be seen (and actually seen better) from Jetty Park in the city of Cape Canaveral or along the beach in that area.
