Package Deals, Classic, AAA

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Hawaii in October to celebrate our 11th anniversary. Too busy last year to travel.
We are in our mid 30's, have 2 preschool children and just want to relax for a week.
We are leaving the kids at home with grandparents.

We know for sure that we want to go to Kauai but not sure what other Island to try to squeeze in for the rest of the week. We are looking for natural beauty not man made stuff. Our agent suggested that we just stay on Kauai for the week.

I am working with AAA currently but I am a little disappointed in the "best" rate our agent is quoting us on some of our choices on our hotels. We were looking at the Priceville resort and it was going to be $840 for 2 nights. Does that seem high?

These packages are difficult to break down becasue I think it does include car rental.

I have never done a package deal for any travel so I am not sure if this is the best way to arrange your first trip to the Islands.

I am looking for any suggestions or help. You my email me if you wish.

Thank you in advance for your help. I have learned so much in the last week from reading all the great information this site has to offer.

Christine, If I really just wanted nature in all it's glory, I'd spend the whole week on Kauai. When you switch to another island, you lose most of a day of relaxation.

Princeville Resort is the most expensive hotel on the island, and $420 night is not unusual, especially with a car, which you can figure is costing you about $25-30/day. Rack rates start at about $350 day there and go up.......The Sheraton Kauai and the Marriott start at about $100 day less, the Hyatt about $50 day less.

You can check with these hotels on your own to see if they have any special packages then - they very well may, as October is the "low" season, really. Or there are less luxurious places (but still very nice) that accept the Entertainment Card, and you can really save some money. It all depends on what you want, and how much you are willing to spend! You might want to go to "pleasantholidays.com" and take virtual tours of some of the hotels on Kauai, or buy a good travel book on Hawaii and read the hotel, condo & B&B descriptions.

Please feel free to e-mail me if I can be of any help to you - I really don't mind! I've been to Hawaii several times, and it's my favorite place!

Aloha, Ruth

You may want to check with Starwood Vacations (what the Sheratons are called now) regarding their packages. They can be cost effective and nice. Also, check with Hyatt Vacations they have a different 800 number than the 800 number for Hyatt hotels--they are offering the sixth night free. It is also a great hotel. I've stayed at both the Hyatt and Princeville--they are both great-just depending on what you want. Hyatt VAcations is taking 10% discount for PriceCostco customers and 15% off for Target Travel Club members Hope this helps. We really enjoy the quite of Kaui when we want to get away for a week.

I just booked with Starwood for 5 nights at the Princeville in late Sept/Oct. We are paying $1508 w/tax for an Ocean view with a promise of an upgrade (join the Starwood club for free b4 making ur reservations.) We also get $25 a day for food at the resort. There were good rates through Sheraton as well. Always check both.
