Pacific Northwest

My husband and I will be traveling to the Pacific Northwest this September. We basically want to see Seattle, Mt. Ranier, the San Juan islands, Victoria, and Vancouver. How much time is necessary for each of these places?

I'd suggest the following MINIMUM times in each place (but more is always better!): two nights Seattle, one night Mt. Rainier (or day trip from Seattle), three nights San Juans (two nights one full day is just too much of a tease, IMO), one night Victoria (or day trip from Seattle), two nights Vancouver. And remember, don't try to go TO the San Juans on a Friday or come back on a Sunday!

All depends on what you want to do. We have done the same trip twice. Seattle overnight or two nights, Mt Rainer at least overnight. You see the San Juan islands on your way to Victoria. You may want to stay at one of islands overnight. Mt. Rainer and Mt St. Helene are two of my favorites. There is also a day trip we took that stays in my mind. It was to Artist Ridge by way of Mt Baker RTE 542. Beautiful picnic with view of Mt. Suskins (sp?) Loved the area. Have fun.

Hi, Elise,
Obviously your question is hard to answer. Many of us live here and still haven't seen everything.

Depending on your interests, Seattle and Vancouver each really need several days to a week to explore, including some day visits beyond the city. Three or four days is probably a good allocation to Victoria, more if you want to explore other parts of Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands.
The San Juans can be experienced in as little as a couple of intense days up to a week or more. Mt. Rainier IMO is a good, long day trip from Seattle, unless you want to do some mountaineering or hiking. Other places you haven't mentioned but ought to consider are Olympic National Park in Washington, and the "Sea to Sky" highway and Whistler in BC.
Can your visit be accomplished in less time? Sure. What do you want to skip?

Many thanks to all of you! I'm sure I'll be back to ask more specific questions.
