Pacific Coast Highway
My husband and I are planning a last minute trip to CA... flying into LAX on Sat and traveling north, eventually arriving in San Francisco the following Sat for our return flight home. I'm thinking of driving to San Luis Obispo the first day and then take a slower pace. Any recommendations as to where to stay? Where to stop? Or great places for lunch? BTW... we're leaving the kids at home
Thanks!

I agree with choosing Cambria over SLO. I am not that familiar with Santa Barbara, but since you have quite a bit of time for the trip, I think driving all the way to Cambria the first day would be pushing yourselves unnecesarily, so Santa Barbara for the first night makes sense.

I agree with Santa Barbara, but make lodging reservations, like yesterday!
Most of the State seems booked up this month. We like the Villa Rosa Inn a block from the beach.

trippinkpj is right - any time of year, but especially in summer/Fall - thgere is usually a 2-night minimum at most decent places anywhere on the coast. You might luck out finding a place that has had a cancellation or something. But I would jump and get accomodations ASAP - and definitely have a plan B if nothing is available . . . .
