Pacific Bell Park

We're coming to SF from the UK (via NYC and Vegas) in mid-July. We have tickets to see an evening game at Pacific Bell Park. Any tips? Anything we should or shouldn't miss? We know about dressing warmly! Think we can get the Bart or Muni from our hotel - Holiday Inn in Financial District.

The stadium sponsor has changed so the park is now SBC park. In case you hear that instead of Pac Bell I thought you might want to know people are talking about the same place.

You'll have no problem getting the MUNI, it stops right at the park, just ask at teh hotel what route to take or check a MUNI map. If you have kids, get there early and they can play around in the kids area near the Coke bottle in left field. If you have a PDA, one of the unique features of this place is you can wrielessly sync the game scorecard with your device at kiosks in the concourse. The big thing to eat here is the Gilory Garlic Fries. Frittes loaded with garlic and cheese - garlic is grown locally a bit south of the bay area. At a day game, afterwards, they allowed the kids to run the bases on the field, I wish I could have blended in and taken my trot!

I'm going to the game tonight!! Agree 100% with Loki about the garlic fries. The line will be L O N G but worth the wait!

From the Holiday Inn Financial District....I don't know. The "N" line goes right to the Ball Park but there may be a better way.

The ball park is very accessible via public transportation. The "N" Judah underground line mentioned above is a very good choice. Just go down to the Montgomery Street Bart/Muni station and make sure you get on the Muni Metro level. Then get on one of the trains going to the ball park - make sure you go in the right direction , or you will be on an impromptu trip out to Ocean Beach! Usually, on game days there are monitors directing people onto ball park trains.

And yes, take a jacket and sweater. July is the middle of our famous foggy season. Even if the day is sunny, as the evening approaches, the fog comes in and the wind picks up - especially near the water, where the ball games are.

Have fun!

I go to evening games often. If you get cold easily (like I do), I'd bring a blanket and a hat/cap too. Lots of people do. Garlic fries are yummy!

Saw the game Tuesday night! Beat LA-Beat LA-Yes we did Beat LA! On the dress
thing:We come over on the ferry from
Marin County where, standing in line to board, it was 80 degrees, but my jeans would save me later and I felt sorry for those in shorts. Off the ferry at 6:50 we don heavy sweatshirts, by 7:45
out come the GLOVES, and eventually a lined thigh length London Fog jacket with hood becomes a must! I carry a backpack and note that many others do to(not to exceed 16x16x8 and it will be searched). The woman next to me has the greatest Giants' logo
ear muffs, wool scarf and blanket.
We were in View Box 331 and at first I was dissapointed that we were not in our bayside VB 303-not that night-much more exposed and windy! I think I will stash an additional blanket in my pack for our future games-Oh, and great tacos can be had from the Compadres vendors.
"Take me out to the ballgame...!"
(At the 7th inning it is custom to stand up and stretch and sing "Take me out to the ballgame". Not to worry if you don't know the words-they are posted on their big screen for all to sing along).
Have a blast!

Depending on where you sit at SBC (PacBell) will determine how much layering to do. Some places get direct wind others not so much so dress in layers. If you eat the garlic fries you had better like garlic and don't mind stinking for a few days. Bit too much for my taste but there are some great and interesting little places inside the p ark to eat out by the bleachers./ There is also MoMo's which is outsdie the park and down a few blocks the Biersch Brewery, also the best pizza place in the world Amici's just across the street - get there early for these restaurants. You can take public transportation to the park. Ask at the hotel desk and they can direct you. You might have to transfer. You could walk a few blocks to the Embarcadero and catch the street car and then walk underground at Market/Embarcadero and take the Judah (Cal Train direction) which passes right in front of the park.
