I don't think the aroma complaint is valid. I have smelled some really crummy food served by the airlines. 300 microwaved link sausages have quite an aroma. But with airlines cancelling coach food service on most flights...only business and first class passengers will "enjoy" domestic microwaved food bliss. The coach passengers will have to "endure" PB&J, pizza, BBQ, sushi and sub sandwiches! Viva la carry-on food!

We just got back from St. Croix and all the way from BWI to Miami had a miniscule pkg of granola that was supposed to be the continental breakfast, mind you we arrived at 5 am and got on the plane at 7:30 and then were late getting to Miami and rushed to get on our next flight (so no time to buy food) and for the next 2.5 hr. leg got a drink and snack mix for lunch. Needless to say we were pretty hungry and pissed that tickets that cost $900 apiece on American got us nothing to eat. The fares did not drop EVER even after 9/11. Now its supposed to be airline policy? Has anyone else heard this? What saved us on the return flights was that our cab driver was willing to stop at Wendy's on the way to the airport and we had salad and hamburgers to eat.

When my aunt used to visit my cousin in the midwest, she always packed an east coast goodie bag. Filled it with kielbasa and the crunchy breads that you could only find in east coast delis (at the time). All the flight attendants used to come over; she'd always pack an extra container that they would enjoy because many of her flights were at odd hours and she was one of few peopleon the flight.

Talk about experiences and your own food. We had a 6:00AM flight out of Florida this morning. We had to up and out at 3AM to drop off the rental car and get to the airport two hours before the flight took off. First No Coffee - Ouch that hurt, the head was pounding, but we lived. The airport was jammed with young people who were bar hopping near River Walk and had to catch the flight. Together with the smell of booze and the pizza that they brought on the plane was horrible. Only coffee was served after we were in the air for about an hour. At 6AM the smells of everyones food was not good, but guess what, we are home safe and sound and have resigned ourselves to the fact that travel has changed and this is the way it is, so go with it. I was hoping someone offered us one of their bagels with everything on it. No luck. Next time, we will get up a half an hour earlier and have our own goodie bags. Its a totally different world out there and just go with it.

This week when I flew I packed an Armenian pita sandwich stuffed with chicken roasted on a spit, tomatoes and garlic paste.

People change their babies on planes, I doubt anyone would complain about that 'aroma' but that smell is much worse.

Michelle -

The cab driver saved you from what? Starvation, by making sure you got a "biggie" meal before you withered way to nothing?

2 weeks ago week took a long stopover flight on Southwest. I knew they did not have a good reputation for food enflight, so I made subs to take, along with fresh fruit. When they passed out boxes of crackers with a tiny beefstick, our cabinmates did gauk at us with envy. I feel like this did save us money because we did not have to pay for lunch when we arrived.

We brought bagels, lox and cream cheese and ate like royalty - only problem was that everyone who walked by complained that it smelled like dead fish near us!!

In South-East Asia, there's a fruit that's supposed to be a delicacy to eat, but left to its own devices it smells - well, frankly of raw sewage. And it's virtually a criminal offence to take one on to a plane.

Just flew from Las Vegas to Columbus first class on American West and they didn't have any food-even though it was a 3.5 hour flight

I'm a little confused. Can someone please tell me why this thread is listed under Arizona?

This thread is also appearing on the Masachusetts board. I guess someone thought this topic was of special interest to these states, and who knows how many ohters!

There is no "Arizona Board" or "Massechussetts Board". There is a "United States Board", which is where this thread is posted.

When posting you can select a state, but that is only for the search engine.

Actually, Dave, there are state boards. Look above and you can click on any state and get all threads specific to that state. Also, if you start a thread under that state, it will be included on that board, as well as the general United States board.

Can you believe it? The last time I flew Northwest, the flight attendant wouldn't let me use my fondue pot! I even brought one of those really long orange indoor/outdoor extension cords so they could plug it in in the cockpit. And we won't even talk about the hassle they gave me when I tried to get the skewers through security. I will never fly Northwest again!

Judy,

Are you talking about the list of states next to the "find" button? If so, then I believe those are not separate boards, but keys for a search function, which apparently includes posts for that specific state, PLUS those which aren't associated with a state.

My point is that the original poster did not need to post this thread to separate "boards", as was suggested above, but that it shows up when you search for separate states because these posts are all part of the same "United States Board", and the "find" function is including it in searches for various (probably all) states.

The only time I became discretely ill on a plane was when my seatmate came back from the washroom with too much strong aftershave. Odors do matter. I think it is gross to see and smell people going down the aisle with their burgers and fried chicken boxes. Pack or buy a snack but not something that will affect others with the greasy smells.

1. Jello, chicken broth, and Pedialyte.

2. When did bringing my own food really save me, you ask? When I brought the Jello, chicken broth, and Pedialyte on board. Believe me, it was badly needed after witnessing the Muffeletta attrocity (mentioned by Joan, the fourth reply on this posting).
