Overnight between Mt. Rushmore & YNP?

Want to break up the drive from Mt. Rushmore to YNP.
Thinking of Sheridan, WY, but would appreciate thoughts/suggestions.
What's this town like?
Would like a "western" dinner experience or some other local flavor while we're there, tho it will just an evening/overnight.
-Thank you.

Cody is an place, I also love Buffalo, WY. A nice small town to relax in. I am seriously thinking about retiring there.

More expensive, you could also consider Jackson Hole, expensive, exclusive and nice.

Just got back from a Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore trip. We stayed one night in Buffalo, WY and I was, frankly disappointed. Not much choice in restaurants and the town was very quiet. I wish we had gone to Cody.
For a great western dinner experience, I highly recommend the Western Cookout (either via wagon ride or horseback) that goes out of the Roosevelt Corrals in YNP. It was a lot of fun and the food pretty good. Only runs in summertime, though. This is bookable through Xantera along with your lodgings.
