Chicago Premium Outlets is about 40 miles directly west of downtown, at the Farnsworth North (Aurora) exit from I88. It opened about a year ago and has about 120 stores.

I've been there a few times, as I live nearby, and frankly I haven't been overwhelmed by the prices in most of the stores, but it is big.

Also, Lighthouse Place in Michigan City, IN; two outlet centers just over the WI border in Kenosha; and Gurnee Mills (some of the stores are factory stores) on I294 about 40-45 miles north of downtown. I think all of them have websites, so you can check to see if they have the store(s) for which you are looking.

I'm also under-whelmed by most factory outlet "bargain" prices. IMHO, you can do just as well at downtown stores like TJ Maxx and Filene's. Good luck!

I would second checking into the Aurora Outlet. My friend lives near there and she feels it is the best outlet in the area. Gurnee and Prime Outlets in Pleasant Praire would be the next choice -- Gurnee is the larger of the two. Avoid the other outlet (just north and to the west)...I've heard it will be torn down soon anyway.
