Outdoor Dining NYC
Can someone recommend a few restaurants in the Midtown east or west, or upper East that offers outdoor dining? (i.e. street side tables, courtyards, garden tables etc.) Sorry about the large range of areas, but I didn't want to limit my possibilities, or say anywhere in "NYC" and drive everyone nuts with too large of an area . . .anyway, thank you! Price inexpensive - moderate, just nothing too "over-the-top" we'll have to eat the next day too - ha ha ha.

Susan,
There are hundreds of outdoor cafes on the Upper East. 2nd and 3rd Avenues in the 70's and 80's seem to have the most outdoor restaurants. Midtown doesn't have quite as many. Though, there is the Bryant Park Grill & Cafe. These are two different restaurants right next to the NY Public Library off of 6th Avenue between 41st and 42nd Street, in Bryant Park. I can't remember which is which, but one is entirely outdoor (the less expensive one) and the other is indoors but has a "rooftop" area (1 story up) that is sometimes open for food/drinks. I have only eaten at the less expensive outdoor one. The food is decent, not great, but the setting is wonderful, below all these tall trees. There is a bar area too, that used to be very fun but now sometimes has a line around the block to get in, it became so popular. But the last few times I was there, there was no wait for tables for people ordering food. However...I should mention, this place may not be open yet, since it's entirely outdoors...
I recommend you do a search on ZAGAT.COM to find something that fits your specific tastes. I believe they specify if there is outdoor seating.

I'm with Suzanne -- there are literally hundreds of restaurants with outdoor dining on the Upper East Side. One particular block is completely lined with such restaurants -- Second Avenue, 75th Street. Here are just a few:
Atlantic Grill
Jasmine
Jackson Hole
Mustang
Luke's
Pablo's
Due
Cilantro
Martell's
Caffe Grazie (just one or two outdoor tables)
La Goulue
Googie's
Le Refuge (beautiful garden)
DT-UT
etc etc etc

Hello everyone, thanks so much for your suggestions. Now that I'm "armed" with a little bit of info I'm going to do some research on zagat.com. It's always nice to have a few names of specific places when confronted with the endless lists on Zagat - thanks again, you have been very helpful
