Oregon Trip in Early/Mid June

I will say this- The Boat Tour and hiking @ Wizard Island was very good.

With 7 days, I would stick with Portland, Coast, Gorge, St Helens, and Hood. Seattle isn't that far, but you would lose some time on the drive. There is a lot to do and see in the Portland area. If you went with Seattle, I would spend time in the Cascades, San Juans, and Olympic. as Beachbum says, you could easily spend a week+ in either location. Maybe save Crater Lake for a more southern tour of Oregon.
And if you do ever go to Crater Lake, at least you have a variety of opinions on when and how. It really is a very pretty spot, the blueness of the lake is really hard to describe.
Btw, I saw a very interesting Egyptian snow scene yesterday(we rarely get snow)it had mummy, sphynx, pyramids. I wonder if you could do something like that in the sand? Sandcastle competition sounds fun.

I think one of the common mistakes we all make is to try and see too much in a limited amount of time. Oregon is a big state with a plethora of outdoor opportunities. I would stick to a simple itinerary and since this is your first trip, maybe try and identify some areas you want to come back and explore more fully, and in different seasons. Crater Lake for example is a far different experience in the summer when the lodge and boats are running at capacity with all the tourists, than it is in winter when you can cross country ski the rim trail and it is so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat. Both times have thier merits. I suggest a loop trip, beginning in Portland, traveling all the way down the coast then over to Medford and Klamath Falls, then up Hwy 97 through Bend to the Columbia River and back through the Gorge to Portland. Save Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula for another journey. Lots of road miles, but it will give you a better idea of what Oregon has to offer and allow you to pick a focus for future trips. Personally I think the southern Oregon coast is as scenic a place as anywhere in the country, and worthy of a separate trip of its own.
