Oregon public transportation questions

Is there a bus that would work to get from Portland to Manzanita or Yachats or other coastal destinations? Want to rent a place near enough to a coastal town to be able to walk to town for food, etc.

Thanks folks.

Here's a link that might help:

Looks like you can get from Portland to Tillamook and up to Manzanita from there. Unless someone here responds with more, you may want to search this one on the internet. I don't think it is "easy" to do by public transport.

Amtrak has bus service from Portland to Astoria and Cannon Beach for $17-$18. Cannon Beach is nicer than Yachats IMHO.

As you might know Canon Beach is VERY popular and i think very expensive.
In comparison Yachats is tiny and less people.
In summer both are equally crowded.
In the past there was a bus that went up and down the coast but i cannot find it now.
Good luck

Go to the airport (PDX) website and look at options. Agreed, this will not be easy. Why not just rent a car? They are relatively inexpensive and will allow you to see more areas. Walking into town will be fine, but the Oregon Coast is awesome and you will need a car to see it. Otherwise, you will be frustrated that you are stuck in one little place - trust me, I go there all the time.

For example, near Manzanita you will need a car to see: Hug Point, Oswald West, Nehalem Bay, Three Capes Loop, Cannon Beach, Astoria, Fort Clatsop, Ecola St Park, and on and on.

How long are you staying? The hostel in Seaside is cheap.
The Amtrak bus has a stop in Seaside as well, $17 fare.
I like the Prom in Seaside. Plenty of good places to eat there.
If you want to see more than 2 miles of the beach rent a car at some point.
