Oregon for 8 days revised

Hello again everyone. Ok so we have taken advice and done more searching. So Far here is a rough draft, still would like more help.
1st day and night stay in Portland.
Next day drive towards coast to Newport, maybe drive towards Tillamook and then drive down(too much?) Stay in Newport 2 nights.
Drive to Florence stay one night, down to Bandon or Gold beach, stay 2 nights then to Mount Shasta one night then home Reno. My questions are do these towns we want to stay 2 nights at have lots to do? We like lighthouses, walking on the beaches, eating good seafood, checking out the downtown areas. Maybe go dune buggy riding in Florence? I was looking at the Shilo Inn in Newport. The driftwood shores in Florence, and I haven't any ideas yet in Bandon or Gold Beach. Thanks in advance for help and any ideas

Hi,

We took a dune buggy(with driver) in Florence a couple of years ago.It was an absolute blast!!.\/ Use a driver for sure.worth the spurge.

If you love lighthouses, you will love the Newport area. There is enough to keep you busy for a couple of days here.

For ocean views and great beach walks..Bandon is the place to go.It is my favorite place to just hangout. Not a very big town, and very windy. But the ocean and beach are amazing there.

Florence and Newport are only 50 miles apart, so I'm not sure why the night in Florence. You could easily leave Newport in the am, take a dune buggy ride, and still make it to Bandon (or Gold Beach). Hwy 101 from Florence south to Port Orford is mostly inland, so there are fewer distractions (though you might want to drive six miles inland at Reedsport to the elk reserve).

I'd also pick Bandon over Gold Beach, unless you're thinking about a jetboat ride up the Rogue River. Or, maybe stay in both by exchanging the night in Florence for one in Gold Beach. Regardless, since you're golfers, you should at least stop in at Bandon Dunes Resort, and have a drink in the clubhouse bar overlooking the 18th green. You'll think you're in the British Isles.

To Newport via Tillamook will be a fair amount of time in the car, but worth it if you take the Three Capes Scenic Loop. Don't miss Cape Meares St. Park, from where you might see the best views of the week.

Beachbum is right about Florence. No real need to stay there a night.

You might check out the Sunset motel in Bandon. They have a website. It will come up with a google search.

Your itinerary looks great. When are you going? If you are going in September or October, be aware that storms can blow up pretty quickly and last several days, so have an alternate plan if you run into bad weather.
