Oregan, Golds Beach, Mailboat to Rogue River

My two daughters, (10 & 4 years old) and I are traveling by car from LA on Aug 17 to SF (staying over night only) and then up west cost as much as we can and depending on how much my kids allow me to drive up north, (through Oregon & Washington) and then back to LA by Aug 26th. I have read many email in this forum but I have not read any about Golds beach and traveling to Rogue River by Mailboat. Can any one tell me anything about that or should I skip that because there are more exciting & scenery places to see. I also would like to camp, kids would love that but I do not know how cold would it be at nights. I don't want them to get sick. Thanks you so much for input.

Don't skip it!!It was really fun We really enjoyed the trip over to have an old fashioned dinner. The staff let my son ring the dinner bell. He still remebers that. We sat in a screened in porch that overlooked a grassy field. My son was about 9 when we went. He really enjoyed it!We camped there right near the boat treip, just ask when you choose the trip and make your reservations.

I think you're taking on way too much driving for an enjoyable vacation for young children. What 4 year old wants to be trapped in a car for a week? I think you should rethink your plans and limit your time to California.

Thank you so much for your reply Gail and also xxx. I made my reservation for the longest trip. I will change plans if my kids get tired of being in the car I just stay where they like to stay. I have my camping gear and credit card and open to anything that this trip will provide. Thanks again. Moe

just a warning..good thing you have the credit card since we found out the hard way...If one of the kids rolls one of the dune buggies over there is a $75.00 charge.(To shake the sand out or something). I am pretty sure the 10 year old may beg you to take one out.It really looks pretty safe (and fun), but the cost was a $hocker. It really was an accident as kids are so light and may need to get adjusted to the dunes.
