One Day in Philly - Must Sees and Where to Stay

We have one full day in Philly next Friday. We then travel to NYC. Anything to see between the two?
In Philly, I guess Independence Hall and the bell are must sees. Anything else? We're a family with two teens.
Also, should be stay in the historic section?
Thanks in advance for all the help!

Depends what you like to do. Check out www.gophila.com. Staying in the historic district would be the most convenient for major tourist attractions - Independence Hall, Constitution Center, US Mint, Reading Terminal Market, etc.

I think the Constitution Center is a must-see for all students. It is a great learning experience. You could also do a carriage ride around the historic area. While in the historic area, I would bring the teens to the Reading Terminal Market for lunch.

The www.gophila.com site has an excellent feature called 'explore on map'. Use it to find historical and educational locations and also to find hotels.

I would suggest the area of Rittenhouse Square for a hotel. It puts you right in the center of things.

In addition to the historical possibilities mentioned above there are excellent options for music and the arts. Unfortunately the Phillies are away at Atlanta. Enjoy.

My friend's teenager really enjoyed the Mütter Museum, which has all kinds of grossly cool medical oddities...

and the Eastern State Penitentiary tour.
