One Day in Los Angeles
I will arrive at LAX early in the day on a Friday in December and overnight at the airport Hilton before an international flight the next afternoon.
What is the most convenient way to get to the Getty Museum?
What other points of interest are nearby?
Thanks

The web site for the Getty Center Museum is www.getty.edu/museum. They have detailed info on how to get there using public tranportation. I went there on a Sat. last month but we drove. Parking was $5.00 and there was no admission charge. You took a tran from the parking garage up the side of the hill to the museum at the top. It was fantastic - great views, lovely gardens. We took the free architectural tour and enjoyed it. There was a sign to show you where to meet for the tour at the entrance to the building. Other tours were also available on the different exhibits.

You might consider just renting a car and going to the Getty yourself (it's a wonderful museum, been twice in December myself). If you did not want to do that check with the Hilton, it is a huge hotel and will have a tour desk/info available. As for what is around LAX - well, it's an airport! Just to the north of LAX is Marina del Rey and then Venice and Santa Monica - just to the south are the lovely beach towns (cities really) of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. Each has a pier, shops, the beach, etc. It's a nice area to kill some time and relax a little (walking along the beach!) before your flight. You would need a car (or taxi) to get to these places tho, public transporation in the LA area is sadly lacking.

I, too, had 1 day in L.A. I chose to stay in Santa Monica because I wanted to be central to access Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. I rented a car and stopped at Venice Beach on my way to the Hotel. Dropped our things off at the hotel and proceeded along Wiltshire Boulevard or Santa Monica Blvd.(I forgot which one I took)to Rodeo Drive and on to Melrose Avenue for lunch(I had my teenaged daughter with me). We had dinner in Santa Monica and coffee & dessert at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel later that evening.
In the morning we simply cruised along the road that took us back to the airport via Marina Del Rey.(Stayed off the highway). Taking in the Getty sounds great, too.
