One day between Denmark, ME and Niagara Falls
In August we have one day between picking my daughter up from camp in south central Maine and being in Niagara Falls. I'm looking for a suggestion for that night. I'd like to be fairly close to the Falls to eliminate driving the next day, but want to stop somewhere nice. Would the White Mts. be an option, Skaneatles or ?? We won't be into nightlife or high end dining, more into natural scenery and/or area with charm.

I defintely wouldn't try for the white mountains. Not really on the way, nor anywhere close to Niagara.
I'm not familar with Skaneatles -- the only Finger Lakes town I know at all is Ithaca. But the Finger Lakes in general seems like a good place to spend the night. It's 80% or more of the way there.

The White Mountains certainly are on the way -- in fact, Mapquest takes you right through them on NH Route 16 on the way from Denmark to Niagara Falls. But they're not far from Maine --- certainly not "most of the way" to Niagara Falls. For that, you'd certainly have to be in upstate New York.

Oops. I didn't read the post carefully (nor apparently the title at all
, and thought the OP was coming from south coastal Maine.
If you are starting right off of 95, going through the White Mountains would be something of a detour. Looking at a map and seeing where the OP is actually coming from, yes, the White Mtns are on the way.
