San Francisco safety question
Hello all, I am planning on taking bus #22 running along Fillmore to Haight St, walking one block up Haight toward Pierce Street. Do you know if this area is safe for a woman to walk alone on Saturday evening, no later then 9 pm? Somebody told me that this is a "project" area and may be not safe. Please advise!
I need to attend some evening activities on Haight between Steiner and Fillomore this coming weekend.

You should be good. The projects are down a couple of blocks at Buchannan. At that hour there will still be LOTS of foot traffic and people for their dinners, bars, etc.
When we were younger, we used to refer to the 22 Fillmore in the daytime as the 22 Thrill-more and in the evening as the 22 Kill-more.

FainAgain,
If you are walking just the one block, I don't think you will encounter much to worry about. This stretch of Haight has come out with a lot of new-ish bars and restaurants and is not as desolate as it was in years past. The bus ride will probably afford you more to observe and avoid!
Kikahead, you crack me up and bring back memories!

The lower Haight should be quite busy at 9 pm on a Saturday night-- it has changed a bit in recent years with an influx of 20 somethings moving into the area and stores, cafes etc which cater to them. It's certainly not a Union or Chesnut street crowd or area but it will fine.
