Ogunquit Maine to the Berkshires in MA avoiding major highways?

I'm teturning from Ogunquit to the Berkshires and would like to avoid Rt 495 north of Boston specifically, and also 290 into Worcester. We would happily go through NH and VT for a more pleasant drive provided it doesn't add too much time (and hour/ hour & 1/2 is OK) Looking at 101 but not sure. Thanks

If it's only 495 and 290 that you want to avoid, a very simple solution would be 95 all the way to 90 (Mass Pike), then the Pike out to the Berkshires. That won't take more than 30 mins extra (if that).

If you're looking to avoid major highways altogether, you could take 101 all the way to Milford (NH), then head south on 13 until you get to Rt 2, then Rt 2 west for a while. Depending on where in the Berkshires, you could stay on Rt 2 to Williamstown and then south on 7. That'll be much more leisurely, but it could also easily add a few hours to the trip.

Thanks for the ideas! Thinking route 2 will be nice.

Go to Bing Maps, Directions, and enter "Ogunquit, Maine" and "wherever in the Berkshires" and select the "no highways" option.

It takes you -- slowly -- through lots of cool places where you will want to stop.

Expect a slow trip, but from Ogunquit you could take rt.9 west to Rochester NH where you can pick up rt.202 south which joins to Mass. rt 2 (Mohawk trail) near Athol, MA. from there continue west until you are as far west as you want to go. No hwys at all.

I would take a combination of suggestions. Instead of 101 which is a limited access hwy, take Rt 16 then 4 from Portsmouth to Concord NH then I393 to I93 to I89 to Rt 202 to Keene NH then I91 south. Rarely have traffic on I91. You can take a more scenic route thru Concord to Henniker/202 but the interstate bypasses make it quicker.

I vote route 2 all the way across. Direct yet scenic.

Yes, but if you haven't been to Jaffrey, Peterborough and Keene, you haven't been anywhere.

Rte 2 is boring from the Concord Rotary to I-91. You can do J-P-K, then take 91 from Brattleboro to Rte 2.

I hate 101 from the seacoast to Manchester but I agree the western part thru Jaffrey, Peterborough and Keene would be a very nice drive.
