O'dysius Hotel Lincoln City vs. Cannon Beach
Has anyone stayed at the O'dysius Hotel in Lincoln City? Really wanted to stay at Stephanie Inn at Cannon Beach but its booked. O'dysius is the closest 4-star on the coast. In you opinion, is it better to stay in Cannon Beach? If so, which oceanfront hotels are best? This is our first Oregon Coast trip.

If this is your first trip to the Oregon caost please don't stay in Lincoln City! It's not the *worst* town on the coast, but most Oregonians would rate it very low....it's an ugly 7 miles of cheap shops and motels lined up along highway one. Not a very attractive beach either.
Cannon Beach is a much nicer town and a far more beautiful beach. Stay at some place like the Tolvanna Inn in Cannon Beach...right on the beach, great view of the famous Haystack monolith rock.

We just returned from a week in Portland on business, with a side trip to the Coast. We also looked at the Stephanie Inn at Cannon Beach. It was truly a beautiful place but a little out of our price range. I am not familiar with the O'dysius Hotel nor do I remember seeing it. We stayed at the Hallmark Resort in Lincoln City for two nights with a wonderful view of Haystack Rock. It was very nice but not anything special. We especially enjoyed two nights at the Inn at Otter Crest, 8 miles from Newport. We happened on it by chance and it was delightful. We originally got a very nice studio apartment (room 409) with a price of $129 per night (that was with a AAA discount). For $139 per night, without the AAA discount, we could get the same room with a dinner for two. I found that hard to believe, but it was true. You could choose any meal off of their regular menu and the meals were superb! So, you may want to check that out. If I can help you further, please don't hestiate to email me directly. Diane Moll.

Actually, the Hallmark Resort with the view of Haystack Rock is in Canon Beach. I vote for Canon Beach. It's a cozy, artsy town with a wide, gorgious beach. Just north of town is Ecola Beach, with beautiful hikes, lovely beaches and great tide pool life. We've stayed at the Hallmark Resort. It's fine, not luxury. It has a nice indoor pool and hot tub, which are especially nice on rainy days, which are always a risk. Plus, the ocean is too cold for swimming and often the weather is not conducive even for sunbathing. Some units have pretty views. And, it's less pricey than the Stephanie, as noted. There are other nice hotels in Canon Beach, that aren't as expensive as the Stephanie, as well.
