OCTOBER IN FLORIDA

I spent my first 22 years in FL and now go twice a year back home. Weather will be warm and October is the slowest tourist month of the year. I would recommend going to Sanibel Island from Orlando. It is on the West Coast off of Fort Meyers. Sanibel and Captiva Islands are strictly monitering their growth so no highrises and it is slow moving all over the island, very relaxing. Shells are beautiful and my macho husband even got hooked. Mc T's is a wonderful seafood place and relatively cheap and the Heron restaurant has 150 menu items and it is really good and cheap. The Bubble Room on Captiva is a restaurant that one cannot describe. The waiters wear boy scout uniforms and you will never forget the experience, great fun. The beaches are so pretty with lots of dolphins jumping. You can rent a boat easily and go to small deserted islands. Real laid back and like FLorida use to be.
I can give you the run down on places to stay if you want.
St. Pete is a great town with the Don Cesar as the hotel to stay at. Bush Gardens in nice but pales in Disney's shadow. The Florida Keys are a haul and maybe not worth it. One could easily spend a week in Disney. We like the Grand Floridian for an elegant hotel but the Beach Club/Yacht Club hotel has the nicest pool. I never want to leave the pool to go to the park. Epcot is very interesting. If you like waterparks, Blizzard Beach is scary and fun and Typhoon Lagoon a little tamer. River Country is over by the campgrounds on DIsney property and is an old fashioned waterpark. The food in Disney has really improved. It use to be dreadful. We always had year round passes and would bring our own as it was bad.
Daytona Beach is for younger people. Skip the Everglades, too many bugs.
Marco Island is okay, to built up for me.
Sarasota has Ringling Museum which is okay.
Naples is a lovely monied town with nice shopping.
I just was in St. Pete last week for my 20year reunion and it was hot and humid but the whole family came back to Seattle very tan.
Enjoy

My husband and I are used to have our vacations in October or sometime in September, and we love the west coast of Florida,Anna Maria island.
It is so neat and wonderful that I would recommed to you blindly.
We stayed at several hotels and two years ago we found out a small complex overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and since then we fall in love with it and also the coming september we will be going there for 3 weeks.
They have special rates for 2 people very often, and we got it.
The business name is Bird's Nest apartments, on Bradenton Beach, Florida.
They have a web site too where you can check out for info.
Try it and you will love it too.
Good Luck

My husband and I (40 something) have been going to Sanibel Island Florida for two weeks in October for the past 10 years, we own a timeshare there. The weather is usually in the 80's, and the gulf provides nice breezes. Sanibel is what I consider paradise. The restaurants, the ecosystem everything is just wonderful. But be prepared, if you leave Orlando and head for Sanibel, you won't go back!

My vote is for Marco Island in October!!!
Marco has absolutely beautiful weather that time of year and breathtaking sunsets. It has built up over the past 10 years but still maintains that "small" island feel to it. If you go, be sure to check out "Rookies", a restaurant known for its outstanding food. (especially the jalepeno poppers!!) Also don't miss Stan's on Sundays for an afternoon into daybreak good time!! The rumrunners are great! Wherever you choose to go, have a great time!!!
