Oahu with an 8 yr old

I'm going to Oahu in August for 10 days with my 8 yr old son. Any ideas on what to do/see that would be of interest to him??? Thanks!!!!

There's the Polynesian Exhibition Park just outside Honolulul and Sandy Beach farther along is great for kids---perfect surf and fewer people. We then drove to the northside of the island and saw the famous surfomg beach and then a pretty drive back over the mountain to Honolulu. There's also the Pearl Harbor Memorial, if you think he'd like that or understand it. Lots to do---don't worry--you'll have fun.

lots of things to do that aren't even costing $ like snorkeling (buy cheap set here rather than rent there), can have hours of fun in the ocean with a boogey board, definitely take the hike up diamond head, to the crumbling army lookout, buy a t-shirt saying that you survived the hike, eat, movie or luaus at night, polynesian cultural center. buy a guide book with a "for kids" section in it to give you more guidance. have fun!

Hi - you'll find plenty to make you both happy.
Take a catamaran ride for an hour from out in front of the hotels, cheap, great views, and fun. Do you both like to horseback ride. Much to choose from, my favorite is the Turtle Bay Hilton on the other side of the island because it goes along the beach , but there's another one that takes you along where they filmed "Jurassic Park". Don't remember the name, but you'll find it in any of the free magazines abut activities etc. There's a decent zoo down towards Diamond Head, and all over, there will be lots of various kinds of parrots to have your pictures taken with and send home as postcards.
Have a great time.

The Bishop Museum is wonderful!!!!!!!! Has all kinds of interesting stuff about Hawaii including old capes and headresses. They have displays on all of the cultures that worked in the sugar cane fields with old artifacts and pictures. (Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, etc.) I also like the Buddhist mission where the wild birds will eat from your hands and you can ring that huge gong! Look for heiaw (spelling) the old sacred places where they did sacrifices! There is one near Sunset Beach on the North side. Enjoy!

Type "Hawaii" or "Oahu" or "Waikiki" into any search engine, and you will get more info than you can handle.
